The only people that care about how a pilot looks is another pilot. Passengers don't give a damn about how you looked strolling/sitting in the terminal. They don't care if you've had enough sleep, they don't care if you can pay your bills, they don't care when was the last time you saw your loved ones. What makes you think they give a damn how you look? Passengers only care if you're gonna get them from point A to point B on-time.

If the penny-pinching passengers gave a damn they would pay you what you're really worth... Of course we know they don't as evident by how they complain about ticket prices which we all know are subsidized off the back of employees.

Well, the fact that you look like you're about 12 years old probably didn't help either

Exactly!!!! And for what its worth was in Term 6 at LAX a few hours ago catching a redeye to IAH... some UAL CA was walking around looking like "sad sack",,,,, no group of pilots has a monopoly on its group of guys who look like they slept in their uniform....

fwiw... I had just operated HNL-LAX ... checked in for my 1st class seat on the red eye... and walked to the gate with my back pack slung over my shoulder... THE HORROR!!! .... I did however change out of my uniform into something more comfortable.

So it's the flying public's fault that we make what we make? Not poor management and corporate greed? Bankruptcy and multi million dollar management bonuses haven't taken money out of our pocket?

You're right, there should be an option to "add money" when people buy a ticket. That would solve everything.

Merry Christmas, hopefully you're drunk on eggnog.

Blaming the consumer is a favorite past times here on APC. Not like those poorly paid pilots look for bargains in every other purchase I'm sure.

I got a Jan Sport backpack for Christmas with a tan bottom, it's nice. Should hold up a little better than my LL Bean backpack.

Anyone else find it funny a gojet pilot started this thread? I am sure those guys have better things to worry about, like how they are going to afford to eat today. Just saying

A nice mid flight snack is licking barbecue sauce off my tie.

I wouldn't say it is regional pilot specific because I have seen regional and major pilot that look less than professional in their uniforms. I think it makes a difference to some pax. I know if I was a pax that was fearful of flying I would feel much better if the pilot walking to the plane was wearing his uniform in a professional manner and not looking like a slob. I think the truth of the matter is that how someone chooses to wear their uniform is a matter of self respect.

This is very true. Ever since I left the regionals for the majors, I have realized that 'acting the part' is so huge in GETTING an interview and how you act AT an interview.

Most (not all) major pilots take pride in their uniforms for many reasons, including pure professionalism, not wanting to be the sloppy one in the crew, they care how the public perceives them, etc.

I'm a strong believer that if you want to move up in this industry you've gotta be professional. Just my 2 cents.
