The effect is not as great as you think. Insurance companies and banks charge what they can get away with.

Because people are dumb and like to climb onto their soapbox so they can tell everyone else how awesome and responsible they are.

After reading 9 pages of this B.S. it's comforting to know that my credit score ISN'T what keeping the airlines from calling me.

Maybe it's my 2.7 GPA from 27 years ago in college.

I had a perfect 4.0 in skirt chasing though. That obviously isn't impressing the HR types.

Of course airlines will check your credit rating. Enough defaults and bankruptcies, and they won't remotely consider hiring you as a pilot...

...But they WILL place you straight into executive management. Given that bankruptcy experience is obviously a vital part of any airline CEO's resume.

I think we need a modern version of a debtor's prison for regional pilots who can't/won't repay their loans. I think the government should make those pilots stay at the regionals and repay their loans, or have them garnished.

I'm all for the majors checking credit history and I wouldn't hire someone with a bad credit report. It shows them to be irresponsible, and I don't want someone like that pulling the gear for me.

Because refusing to pay loans and reorganizing are two different things.
It isn't unethical to negotiate a debt settlement with a credit card company.

Up until now, I would have sided with those that said you should have paid off your loan. After being far too close to the proceedings that ended my last airline, I'd say screw it.

To the folks that are thumping on their chests in righteous indignation, you are chumps.
