If you are saying that everyone who has a high credit rating is now paying high interest rates because people like me who had high credit ratings have defaulted... well, that doesn't make any sense.
I didn't think that immature credit or lack or credit equaled a high credit rating, as in my example.Originally Posted by stratmatt

I am not defending someone for defaulting; dead opposite. I am saying if you take out a loan, then you need to pay that loan back.
So you are saying that I CHOSE to not pay my loan back... because I am an irresponsible person unlike you? Originally Posted by RadialGal

Am I supposed to bow and kiss your ring or something?
Ever heard of slander?
For the record, when my loan went to collection I had been away from home for a month attending unpaid training at a 135 operator that I could not work for because I didn't have enough money to rent an apartment or share a crash pad at any of the cities they could base me in.
In my hotel in another state, I received a phone call from home and was informed that my loan had gone to collection. I had called Keybank a week earlier to tell them that I would get a paycheck in a month and to please not send it to collection.
This unpaid training was preceded by an absolutely horrendous winter (4 months) of tons of cancelled lessons (income) as a CFI. You can't work a full-time job "to be responsible" when you have flying lessons scheduled with students.
And you can't get a flying job if you haven't been flying regularly.

The ATP ad at the bottom of this page is so ironic.

no not you, just in general. I think you should purchase 200 hours of multi time from ATP for $25000 though Originally Posted by stratmatt

That's what this is all about.

Thanks to those who mentioned that some states have banned employer credit checks I found my answer with a search: (This is from 2012)
"The total number of states that limit employers' use of credit information in employment is now eight: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Oregon, Vermont and Washington."
Thanks to everyone who made the effort to reply to answer my question.
To those of you who don't know me or my situation, yet felt justified to slander my character...
I hope that I can be like you someday when I decide to grow up and become a responsible member of society.
Once I reach your level, I will erect a throne worthy of royalty, clad in gold. Sitting on this throne while viewing myself in a large mirror, I will worship myself as a god of morality and responsibility while spitting on the lowly irresponsible serfs below who have foolishly committed to a debt in good faith in order to improve their lot in life by getting training for a career- and then fell on tough times.
"You stupid serfs!
Know your place!
Now bring me more grapes!
You leeches on society! Look at me! You are nothing!"

I think message is simple. If you can not afford to learn to fly.....DO NOT. Flying is not something you must do. Flying is not some worth financial ruin. There are plenty of jobs in this world try to be more flexible and respect your fiscal health.
Why is it unethical to not pay back loans as a private citizen, yet completely acceptable business practice to remove debts and restructure payments via bankruptcy?

My $70,000 loan that I took out for flight training 8 years ago went to collection 3 years ago after they bumped my payments up from the "interest only" amount of $500 up to $700... and I'm wondering if a regional will check my credit rating and not hire me for this reason.
And just for the entertainment value... while I was paying the interest only payments for a year and then paying full payments for a year or less... I paid $24,600 out of my CFI pay (instead of paying rent to my mom) and the amount owned on the loan was reduced by $3,000. Fortunately it is a private loan- not government!
For the record, in the bailout of 2008 Key Bank got 14 million dollars of our tax money...
I was going on the fact that you stated "interest only" payment. I do some airlines check. I tells a lot about character of the individual.Originally Posted by stratmatt
