I wholeheartedly disagree with this.

While those hours aren't the best, you still learn a ton. Especially if you have someone trying to kill you(student) in the left seat.

yeah....no. 1200 hours worth of flying a 172 vs. 200 hours worth is a difference. Maybe not the experience you want. But by flying 1200 hours even during day vfr i have seen more than if i had 200 hours time going straight into the right seat of a jet. Statements like this are just ignorant and not true.

Pretty scary.

709's, primary checkride failures, 121 training failures at other outfits, all hired via a phone or email interview.

This could be bad for ALL of us, not just Mesa.

While I learned a lot as a CFI after a while it just becomes routine and your skill level can actually deteriorate if you're not actually doing the flying...

Far from ignorant buddy! The quality of the time makes a huge difference! I've heard instructors multiple times say how some of their best students were actually the lower time guys.. Maybe not as low as 250 hours but time in your logbook does not equate to how well or ready you are for an airline!

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

"Skill level" becomes a lot less important than decision making, knowledge, and situational awareness at this level of flying.

You're correct and I think that is something that can only come with more than just a year at this level! Heck they'd just be off the one year probationary period!

Where are all the naysayers who've been saying the quick upgrade at Mesa was a fantasy?
