how do you write it off?

It's a job-related expense required by your employer. Talk to your accountant or follow the prompts in TurboTax.

Who is canceling the most flights due to "crew"

Go to DeltaNet-->Departments-->Delta Connection-->Departments-->DC Air Operations-->Air Ops Dashboard and you will see the up to the minute status of all DCI carriers and why they cancel. You can go even deeper if you go into the OCC page on the DC Air Operations page and find the link that says "Flight Legs Cancelled with FAM remarks" section. Recently SKW has been canceling more than others due to lack of crews out of MSP for the most part. Mostly to cities like Dickinson, BJI, BRD, etc. Endeavor cancels quite a few as well mostly due to crews being stuck somewhere after east coast weather events and pilots timing out. ExpressJet has the most cancelations due to Mechanicals.

As someone said, the game changes at the regional level to often, it's unstable and incredibly unstable now that companies are having a hard time filling classes. If you qualify for a direct entry captain at Company B and are still a year + from upgrading at Company A, it might make sense...but all in all, chasing upgrade typically further increases your risk of remaining on year one pay more than upgrading sooner.

If you're sitting on at year one at Envoy or sitting at 5-6 or less years at Endeavor it might be worth it to move on to a company that has movement. I wouldn't tell a person to generally chase an upgrade. You have to evaluate your situation and make that decision. All I can do is speak from personal experience and how it's worked for me. If you are going to sit for another 5 years as an FO (that's you Endeavor) waiting to upgrade just because you don't want to start over at year 1 pay all while watching a good chunk of the other regionals upgrade a majority of their list during that same period you may star thinking you should have moved on to something better.
But like I said, I can't make a blanket statement that fits everyone's needs. If you can make it work and are willing to take a risk then I say do it. It's very risky but sometimes risk pays off in huge amounts.

I think that just means either choose the right regional right off the bat if possible. If not possible, make your move to the right regional within the first year of employment at the wrong regional.

It's hard to know when you're constantly being lied to by management. If they would tell you the truth, good or bad, it would help you make a better decision. I gave up and threw in the towel and realized they would never tell us what's going on so I bailed. The only thing you know is that the fleet will be 81 airplanes with a bankruptcy contract. When they tell you they will keep as many 200s as they can staff I have a feeling they're blowing smoke up your a**. Why would they do that? Delta hates the 200 and can't get rid of them fast enough. 9E isn't obligated to keep any of them like SKW is due to contracts. It's obvious they are saying that (lying to your face) to keep staffing under a controlled reduction instead of everyone leaving at once.

I would be calling all your buddies at majors and doing everything you can to polish up your resume. 7 years is quite the commitment. Enjoy the seniority you have and do your best to move up.

Well, Republic can't staff at all. They gave out a $12,000 signing bonus for the last Q class and $7,000 for the last 170 class. Every month when looking at the seniority list, we are negative pilots and we are still accepting new airplanes. We are past the break even point between planes we have parked (145s) and new ones coming in (175s and Qs). So with still more than 20 planes coming online, we are definitely short staffed. I have had a couple of flights recently cancel for lack of crew and I know we are cancelling quite a few a week for that alone.

Wish they would drop the $20000/2yr training contract and I might become interested.

How's it going there anyways Dave?

Hard push for jetblue or spirit.

I feel ya. I left a regional after 5+ Years as a fo for another regional. It did take a while to upgrade here, but I don't regret it. It was tough, but I knew there was no future

I say don't chase an upgrade, but if you are looking to change jobs, I would factor that in to my list of requirements for my next job.
