Default APA/USAPA trying to recapture Scope?

Excerpted from the APA/USAPA negotiating committee

Joint President's Message: JCBA expectations

...

We intend to make the case for our pilots flying E175s and other similar-sized aircraft. The pilot shortage at the regional carriers — driven by poverty-level wages for new hires — is real and materializing sooner than the industry anticipated. The carrier that abandons the regional experiment first and commits to a consistent quality product for passengers, with a reliable supply of highly qualified pilots, will win the day. We will strongly encourage management to restore American Airlines to the position of industry leader and innovator, particularly in the area of mainline pilots performing regional jet flying.

It's pretty hard to believe it could happen successfully with the same management team that's been putting the screws to our nuts since they found out we make $2/hr more than the guys at republic. But it sure would be nice.

The thing with this is, mgt at every airline knows this to be true. But they are hyper focused on numbers and stock prices. So none of them want to be first. Because if they are, but then say DL is able to make it work the old way, there is a huge cost advantage which wall st. won't like and then there goes the stock price, which is usually what is tied to corporate compensation. Now if they all do this, it'll be fine. But trust me, none of them want to be first. Doug Parker hardly seems like an innovator to me. He'd be perfectly content to leave the pilot group(s) at the new AA as fractured as they are as long as it makes money.

aint going to happen. did not happen before wont now. all negotiating positioning. they first need to solidify there pay and benefits in the current negotiations. also they are ****ed that they gave away profit sharing in the MOU and the corporation is making 1.5 billion a quarter and they get nothing.

it is a throw away item, only there to bump up benefits and pay.

AA will have three separate pilot groups for a decade, you can count on that. DUI Doug loves labor discord and he will do all he can to foster that. There will be no gains in their contract talks, Doig wants them closer to US Air's pay scale not the one APA negotiated in bankruptcy. What a pipe dream.

Getting those aircraft away from third rate pukes like republic pilots and over to a real mainline carrier would be an incredible victory for the industry.

pipe dream at best. not going to happen.
when you refer to industry, lets be clear, this is nothing that management wants so it is not industry but pilot group dream just like national seniority list, not going to happen. but keep dreaming.

That will be one hell of a race to the bottom when management whipsaws them with lowball offers by PSA, PDT, EGL, and MAG. G'Luck. Unless they plan to fly them for regional rates, ain't gonna happen.

Just my tin foil hat speaking, but it seems to me that by just letting things in the regional industry simply fall to pieces is working in management's favor---traction in Congress is getting stronger to repeal the ATP law. So management just takes it on the chin (or more like the shin given their record profitability) in the short term, while Congress crumbles at their feet. Long term, management has their old regional model back. Shoot, they might get the government to kick in some dollars towards subsidizing something in the flight training industry to boot. Win-win!
