No argument there. But then they show up, see the airplane and do nothing but complain.

They complain when they see a 50 seat RJ. The people that complain are your once a year travelers.

Yup! As a former PDT guy, I've seen it first hand!

While I'm certainly no expert on the extension program, I hear it calls for gutting the entire airplane, putting in a glass cockpit and all new avionics, new systems, and even some structural work. I just don't see it being worth it. Also, let's face it, no one wants turboprops anymore, least of all the passengers.
Yea the biggest cost of the lifecycle extension program is the structural work, not the avionics. Just think about an airframe taking 80,000 take offs and landings, 80,000 pressure cycles. Remember the Aloha 737? I don't know if I'd be cool taking it to 120,000 even after a refurb.

I had a FAA guy in my Jumpseat who was the second guy every typed in the Dash 8. He did certification on the 100's and 300's. He actually gave types to many of our pilots still here.

When he left the jumpseat he said, "I've flown many planes in my life and I'll tell you one thing.... This thing is a tank! No way in hell can you break the wings off this baby." LOL
