Quote: When the majority of trainees have issues, at least part of the problem has to be the training. From what I am hearing it is unnecessarily disorganized, backward and difficult Low time and high time trainees are both having trouble getting through.

Other companies manage to get low hour hires online, and say what you will about Comair, their training department managed to get a lot of even lower time trainees through their training.
I came to AWAC with 4 type ratings while in the corporate/charter world. Across those four I experienced Flight Safety, Simuflite and Sim Com. Some argue that when you go to a for-profit training center the training is easier because they have an interest in you passing. At AWAC it was no harder or easier than the other ones.

The only difference is AWAC really harped on standardization...which keeps the safety margin high since as we all know you could be flying with a new partner from leg to leg.

The large percentage of this problem is students who are not prepared and don't have a good base of experience. Too much G1000 and not enough good 'ol fashioned needle, ball and airspeed.

This is not the "I walked up hill both ways" speech, the airplane we fly straddles the old and new technologies. Also, when the transistors fail, we as pilots need to be adaptable...that is what they pay us for.

It is also not that difficult and AWAC goes to great lengths to try and make up for shortcomings. But in they end, they usually are the candidate's shortcomings...not the training department.

Quote: Yeah, it appears your information is not accurate. Hoeper was a great guy, in fact he was a great instructor. Fact he won the defamation law suit, that fact was never disputed by the supreme court. The supreme court stated that airlines have immunity in such cases. Does not make it right, it just makes it the law. The supreme court did NOT rule that Hoeper was not defamed.

People can drink the cool aid all they want regarding their employers. Good for you that you are treated fairly by your employer, many other employees are not. In many places Managers just are after certain people, trying to find a "legitimate" excuse to fire someone.

the Facts appear to show that Hoeper "failed his check ride" then WAS BOOKED POSITIVE SPACE after "failing the check ride" then the defamation call was made to the TSA. If the above is true why would any manager book positive space to an employee they believed was mentally unstable and "believed to be carrying"? Why? (one theory is it was done to embarrass Hoeper)

Hmm is it lawful for anyone to carry while on a training event? After the authorities caught up with him on the airplane was he carrying? NO

Just read the case law through colorado, not just the supreme court ruling.

Once again he won his defamation lawsuit, the supreme court ruled that airlines have immunity in such situations. Immunity, similar to a diplomat in the usa. Diplomats may not be prosecuted for crimes.

Please dont drink the coolaid and defame this great man again. He did nothing to you.
I don't care how good a guy he was, he couldn't pass the ride and went crazy on the examiner.

We had some similar issues here going from the 737 to A320, only difference is guys didn't go ape on their instructors.

There was a few 146 guys who didn't make it through or who who did and subsequently were asked to leave. Did you hear about the one who did multiple Expressway visuals while screaming at the FO?

It sucks but it happens.

I was thinking about the expressway visual guy too. Went totally nuts with rage and flew all over NYC. A bunch of 146 guys were upset and left the company back then so I hear.

Went from 88 AC to 70 and I still upgraded in 30 months. Lots of folks left when they shifted to east coast domiciles.

This place is what you make of it. If you come prepared and willing to learn you will do fine. It's as easy/hard as you make it. My new hire class a little over 4 years ago meshed really well and we helped each other out. We all made it through with no major problems and in the standard 10 sims (which seems unheard of now). It was very rare for them to give extra sim time back then. Long story short, you will be fine if you put the effort in.

Just finished sims at AWAC in ten sessions with a c172 background.

Every instructor I've had along the way has been professional and went above and beyond. I'm sure most of the other guys in my class would say the same. Work hard and your effort will be recognized.

Quote: I read what the Navy guy wrote on the last page. He said he screwed something up on his checride and was offered the opportunity to do it again...no pink slip? So, does AWAC allow you to do things over on your checkride if you screw something up?
Not supposed to because its an ATP/PIC type. Back when they gave out SIC type, you can re-do up to 2 items.

Not necessarily true. When the ATP rule went into affect, all of us hired without the ATP were given an ATP/Type ride and were allowed to repeat 2 maneuvers once, or 1 maneuver twice. That was for the ATP, and the removal of the SIC type, so it was not an SIC type ride.
