18 percent fail rate. 80 percent additional training. Try not to stress over it, even if you need extra training so be it. Good luck.

 

Only 1 person in my class of 7 didn't make it. Of the 6 that did 3 passed with no additional training and the other 3 needed a couple more sim sessions.

 

Unjust bust is failing when you landed 2 feet off centerline. What happened to him takes unfairness to a whole new level!! It also shed light on AWAC's training culture.

 

And you think everyone in the training department is out to get the pilots? How many failures do you think the non probationary pilots on the list have per year? Are you worried you're going to fail your ride when you're due because the training department is unfair?

 

There is no way someone could fail for landing 2 ft off centerline. Your "friend" must have had a bad attitude or issues with another part of training. Awacs training is not difficult, its standard, no frills.

I agree that it isn't difficult. I believe I even said it in one of my posts. But part of it depends on who trains or checks you. Because like the other guy said, not everyone is on the same page. Some check airmen are easy and let you re-do multiple items on an ATP/Type ride (I never heard of that). Like my partner who busted FAR and airplane limitations and still passed. When it happened, I was like "uh oh!" and thought he would drop the sim. Others are by the book. Some instructors walked in all ****ed off about something (probably just got turned down by delta) and might just sign you off for checkride knowing you wont pass. You will be naive to think everyone is professional.

To pitchtrim, what happened to Hoeper was exactly that. He ****ed off somebody (consciously or unconsciously) in the tng dept and next thing he knew, he was busting checkride with company checkairman but when it was adminstered by the FAA, he passed! He was obviously competent, so why was he failing company adminstered checks?

 

Why are we talking about some guy ages ago that won a lawsuit because he was discriminated against? You make an awful lot of assumptions. "probably turned down by delta" "sign you off for checkride knowing you wont pass" Some guys are super lax in the training department, others go crazy with the questioning. Prepare like you're going to be asked all areas of systems (like you should be doing) and if you get Mr. Hardass it won't be that big of a deal. Show up unprepared and you'll feel the pain. You never addressed my other questions.

I don't care if they gave me Mr. Super Hardass for that checkride, I would have had ZERO problems with it. My partner? Not so much. So isn't that a recent and real life example of an unprepared individual getting signed off for checks?

 

A culture, no. Regarding your sim partner, I have no knowledge about him, his progress through training, weak areas, ect ect ect. Maybe the instructor felt he was ready, maybe he was out of extra sim time and it was now or never. I don't know.

that's some real water down summary of what happened! Google the court document (its like 200 some pages) and read the events that led up to the "blow up". Also aviation expert testimony about how the company check airmen abused their power.

I was there with my partner through training and I was also there at his checkride! I was the one sitting next to him in case you forgot how it goes.

What do you mean "its now or never"? You are saying they WILL sign off unprepared individual for checks because "its now or never"?
