Anything New At AWAC?
#321
Flying will continue based on what information? I wouldn't come here as a new-hire with blind faith that flying will continue for the foreseeable future. I'm not saying coming to AWAC as a new-hire now is a bad choice, but you need to make an informed, educated decision.

Hope for AWACS sake you're right, however a plane can be flown by anyone. Just because they Change the paint and remodel the inside doesn't mean they aren't planning to put the plane in service with another regional.

I've been on vacation the past few weeks so correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see any planes out there painted in the new American Eagle livery. I'll believe it when I see it....as will most.

Nope, no new paint. And fake leather slapped onto the cloth seating. No real "reconfiguring" going on.

Take this for what it's worth, but I've noticed the Registration certificates are now showing 2016, with a lot of planes being registered through 2017.
AWAC owns some A/C outright and some are leased. Again why would the company spend money registering (every plane I've flown the past 2 months) through at least 2016 (most were through 2017) if you were A. Returning them to the leasors or B. Parking the ones they own in the desert at the end of the year? It doesn't make sense.
We have been told, over and over again, that AWAC has met all the requirements for the extension. Furthermore the option to exercise the extension is AWACs and AWACs alone. AA can't say no. It is 100% up to the company.
So with that said, it makes no sense AWAC would not utilize the extension. Even if they want to be done with the business, if you have another couple years to make money you would. Why wouldn't you?
Finally the fact they continue to hire, as they are, contradicts shutting down this year. It takes new hires 3-5 months until they are online. Why would you be investing the time and money with these newhires who are not going to give you any return on your investment.
My best guess as to why you don't hear any news is the simple fact that management is trying to induce enough fear to cave for a concessionary contract. Thankfully we have enough senior lifers here, and strong negotiating committee, that I don't ever see it happening. Not after what this company did with the concessions they gave with United.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you are a new hire you don't get to vote in a concessionary contract right?
I'm a 'new hire', I certainly don't get to vote on anything for a long time... =)
Also, FWIW... Everyone I have met since joining the company have been great. Although there is nothing in stone, I would put my money on the company being around 5 years from now before I would put my money on some others...
