What is your recommendation for the industry, maybe we should start with that. ie what is an acceptable amount of hours in your book for a regional airline captain?

Whatever the amount where he currently works. I'm sure that's the safe number.

I know some of you Expressjet guys have a hard time with math, but you can't build 1000 hours of 121 time in 7 months. All the guys upgrading that fast came from other 121 carriers like Expressjet with plenty of 121 time.

If I recall correctly, this person had a bid in for upgrade before trans states minimums were dropped... So they have 3500+ hours. Plus the 1000 121 required by law.

This may still seem low time to some people, but that's a hell of a lot more time than people were upgrading with at some places ~8 years ago... There were 1500 hour captains out there in the past!

This industry would be a whole lot better off if pilots spent less time worried about what everyone else is doing, and this thread is a prime example of that.

2500/1000 SIC is the legal requirement, is it not?

I would suppose if a military or aviation degree pilot played their cards right they could legally be PIC at 1750 and 2000 TT respectively.

Is that the case? I've heard some say they'd need 1000 SIC and 2500 TT. Like, the 1000 SIC doesn't start until the ATP is no longer Restricted or something. I know the reg below just says 1000 SIC, but is there anything else to it?
121.436 Pilot Qualification: Certificates and experience requirements.
(a) No certificate holder may use nor may any pilot act as pilot in command of an aircraft (or as second in command of an aircraft in a flag or supplemental operation that requires three or more pilots) unless the pilot:
(1) Holds an airline transport pilot certificate not subject to the limita- tions in § 61.167 of this chapter;
(2) Holds an appropriate aircraft type rating for the aircraft being flown; and
(3) If serving as pilot in command in part 121 operations, has 1,000 hours as second in command in operations under this part, pilot in command in operations under §91.1053(a)(2)(i) of this chapter, pilot in command in operations under §135.243(a)(1) of this chap- ter, or any combination thereof. For those pilots who are employed as pilot in command in part 121 operations on July 31, 2013, compliance with the requirements of this paragraph (a)(3) is
not required.

Not that I know of, but as I'm not lucky enough to be in that predicament, I haven't looked into it any deeper than a military pilot cam fly 121 at 750, and therefore could have 1000 121 at 1750. I assumed that to be legal for upgrade.

Trans States has a 2500TT insurance requirement, and in my opinion, nobody has any business in the left seat with less than that.
