Default Meeting ATP total time requirement

Hey all,

Posting this here in order to try and catch the eye of someone who can actually answer my questions. I am around 50 hours short of my R-ATP total time requirement (I've met all the other mins). I know someone with a homebuilt experimental aircraft that will let me fly it for the price of gas which totally beats $100/hr for a 152. It's a fixed-wing tricycle-gear real airplane, not an ultralight. What I need to know is if I can legally log time in an experimental aircraft towards my ATP total time requirement. If anyone has experienced with this, I'd really appreciate a PM.

Thanks!

Short answer, Yes as an experimental aircraft is a certified aircraft.

Not sure why you would even question. An airplane is an airplane. why would the time not count?

Yes of course. Not sure about your unique situation, but you will probably get 25 hours of sim time during your airline training which might also be able to be applied.

I suppose I just wanted to be sure I wasn't about to do something that would bite me when I sit down with an examiner. Thanks though!

It's legal.. And up to 100 hours of level c or d time can be applied.. Just make sure you have proper records.

Also FTD as long as it was done under a 141 program.

Bulk of my time toward ATP completed last summer was in several Experimentals. It's nice to have older friends who will help you out! Examiner only questioned my recent couple hundred hours FOing a King Air 200 as required crew member under Part 135.

I know you were joking,

...but.... just to set the record straight. If your flying any modified plane without 337s, its not experimental, its unairworthy. You could re-certify your aircraft as experimental if you wanted to.

I only state this to point out if someone did a "Do it Yourself" fix on their airplane it would not be OK to fly as an experimental...
