Move over ASA, Skywest is coming!

Another pilot at SkyWest also thinks that we are looking into purchasing Midwest Airlines. I wouldn't mind flying 717's, although I am sure the pilot lists would remain separate. I guess that will be the next thread, "SkyWest buying Midwest, sends airline industry into the crapper some more"

"US Regional buys Major/National, tables have turned?"
You know the first thread would be from "Anti-Everything," except SKW, Slaphappy!

Koolaidman, I love your avatar and name. I'm very Pro-SKW where sometimes people accuse me of drinking to much Kool-Aid. I don't own a keg of Kool-Aid but my teeth are red.
How can we at SKW not be excited about our future given your past?

I personally have been rooting for this merger. I want it to happen. Let some on the national/LCC's combine, and you will have less competition which is good for the entire industry. It is hard to ask two legacies to combine, but I feel the impact would be much less on employees if two national/LCC's combine.
Midwest is fighting the takeover, but I am rooting for AirTran.

From: 7ER B...whatever that means.
I'm pretty sure hub to hub flying wouldn't hurt anything with a bigger aircraft. A 737 isn't much larger than current aircraft. I think Southwest makes money hand over fist because they use more efficient aircraft with a 25min turnaround, lack of assigned seating(more efficient), and paying 50% of market value on fuel. Not to mention a great reputation for low accidents and high rate of being on-time.
Southwest also doesn't even fly out of atlanta which skw has many flights going to. Not to mention that a 737 can fit cargo on it. That's the money maker.
The CRJ 200 which SKW has more of costs $1131.00 per hr to operate. A boeing 737-800 is $1583.00 per hour. So for $452 more per hour you could fit 139 more people.... Math still says the 737 is a much better aircraft. If they could put 64 people on a 737 they would come out the same as if they put 50 on a CRJ. If they could fill the 737 up they'd save about $2941 per hour compared to using CRJs to move the same volume of people(although 4 trips in a CRJ would move 200 people instead of 189). That's JUST savings. Lets say you pay $100 per ticket for a two hour flight. That's $18,900 with $3166 in direct operating cost(excluding crew and the other little ins and outs). For close to the same volume of people you would get $20,000 in ticket sales with $9048 in direct operating cost (minus crew and the same little ins and outs).
This of course is just the aircraft and does not include the increase in pay you'd pay someone to fly a 737. I wouldn't think it an amateur move by any means.

ERJ/CRJ crew cost: $80/hr CA, $30/hr FO, $20/hr FA = $130/hr
Fuel: 2700/lbs hr (depending on leg length) = 450gal/hr * $2/gal = $900/hr
Ownership cost (lease payments/depreciation/etc)
$60,000/mo, airplane flies 225hr/mo (8hrs day * 28 days a month) = $267/hr
Maintenance: no clue, anyone have a rough idea?
Total: $1297, not including maintenance costs
And those are just direct operating costs off the top of my head. Throw in training cost (for pilots, FAs, dispatchers, ground crew, gate agents), ground crews, parking fees, landing fees, administration fees, etc. and that number quickly grows. Just some numbers off the top of my head.

First, slaphappy is still a tool, always has been, always will be.
Second, the over ride at skypest for the 700 is close to industry average, fine. BUT look at the 900 over ride though guys...you are FAR from industry average. As a matter of fact you are TIED with MESA!! You are the LOWEST paid 900 drivers. This is where I take my issue with skypest after hearing "we are the best ever". This is where you are lowering the bar. For those of you who think you're going to just get your 1000 PICT and move on...what happens when the only place that will take you is US Airways?? Because of jack asses like skypest and mesa who are flying 900 airframes for $60/hr 1st year (not saying anyone is at that rate), US AIR could only negotiate as best they could, which was $79/hr 1st year. If you don't think there is correlation between the two you're on crack. Look at the larger picture, you can't all go work for FedEx and UPS.
Third, you guys don't want to be union, fine. Will it bite you in the ass one day, maybe and then again maybe not. Each person has their reasons for wanting or not wanting a union. Not speaking personally, and i hate to speak in generalities, but there are quite a few people out there who can't wait to see you guys get screwed, and not have any protection because of MOST, not all, of your attitudes in general (ie, slap-meinmyjunk-happy).
But as far as maintaining the bar or raising it, I'm not sold on your efforts, especially as you sell each other out at your own company (sadly not the first nor last to do this). Its really sad to watch too as i have a few good friends who work there. God help us all if skypest buys into the majors, its bad enough as it is.

midwest is going to park some airplanes so i hear, and skywest will cover MKE to PHL, MSP, and SAT, and columbus i think at first.
i work at skywest and i may be one of the few people here who realizes we do nothing to raise the bar. the only reason im here is because xjt and awac wouldnt give me an interview

BTW my union card is in. WE NEED REPRESENTATION before things do take a turn for the worse and it's to late.
Slaphappy's an idiot so keep it civil.

No growth, high cost & a buck more an hour (only on the 50's & only at first)? Your bar is set high.
