Folks need me home as much as possible so I have questions about bases.

Are all the bases 3-4 day trips? I've learned here to think about times of first and last trips because that makes it possible to commute on the same days.

What are the odds of getting KORD, KEWR, KDCA or KLGA as a new hire FO? Seems like they have the best chance of early & late flights. Still have to drive to/from the local Charlie - but at least I'll be able to live at home.

Appreciate the information

Are the hopelessly junior FOs who are sitting reserve for months on end generally assigned long call or short call reserve? As a commuter, would a new hire expect to spend most of their thumb-twiddling at home or in a crash pad?

I would say right now EWR or LGA would be a good chance. I got EWR out of training.

All the airports listed with the exception of ORD is obtainable on the 1st or 2nd bid cycle. ORD is probably 3-4 bid cycles? Not entirely sure tbh, but that shouldn’t be far off.

FOs are indeed twiddling their thumbs at home or in a CrashPad unless they drop reserve and try to pick OT.

I’d argue against that. Bos and dca and ind are probably not obtainable on 1st or 2nd. Bos doesn’t have enough flying and doesn’t need people and dca is pretty senior. 8 people in my class want ind 4 bid cycles later and none of them have gotten it. Lga ewr put and cmh are the best bets early on.

After the vacancy announcement, if you avg out the want and have we are way overstaffed on FO side. No chance of BOS (nor do you want it, no flying).

Feb 01 hire. All LGA reserve has been 3am - 1pm, or 11am - 11pm. Technically reserve ends two hours prior because that is the minimum call out the company is allowed, so you'll end a 3am reserve at 11am, and a 11am reserve at 9pm.

LGA has mostly 1 and 2 day trips. Out of 500 plus pairings for October only 9 qualified as commutable on both ends for me. That's with a 1030am report on the first day and finishing at 830pm on the last day

Not sure what the disagreement was about. BOS, DCA, and IND weren’t brought up. I was referring to the bases the poster asked about (EWR, LGA, etc..) lol
