Republic after the contract
#1111
Hello!
I've got an interview coming up with Republic in a few weeks and I've got a few questions regarding how stuff works there.
- I'm an SIC for a 135 operator on the PC-12. Will Republic take my SIC time? I've heard the term and question "does your company have the OpSpec which requires two pilots?" As far as I know, such an opspec does not exist. As per FAR 135.101, two pilots are required for pax carrying IFR ops. An OpSpec exists which allows an operator to use a qualified PIC with an autopilot in lieu of an SIC. Please correct me if I am wrong!
- Does republic offer buddy passes/pass benefits to give out?
- How long is reserve/upgrade at LGA?
THANK YOU!

Republic at one time had buddy passes on our metal only. Not sure if they still exist. Buddy passes have gone away at most carriers due to people's "buddies" acting stupid. You will get pass benefits on United/American as a new hire. I believe United allows an enrolled friend as well as parents, significant other, children.
Most junior LGA line holder was hired in 4/12/16. So that person was probably either never on reserve or only on reserve for a month or so. As far as upgrade it is running at just under 4 years and dropping slowly. The good news is all the attrition has been from the captain side so that should help. My opinion only, I would plan on being an FO for around 3 years.

Just make sure you read up on contractability before you report to ground school. I'm sure the union attorney will brief this during the pizza party, but you don't want to go against the local and company.

Do you have a 135 checkride to support that you were an sic? I doubt they will question it but as long as you have documentation that you were trained and completed a 135 ride I doubt there would be an issue.

Awesome, good news. Thanks! I'm waiting to hear back from a recruiter before I schedule my interview. Wouldn't want to waste everyone's time if they won't accept my SIC time haha

Because it's weird. A very high percentage of airline bankruptcies have had their labor contracts gutted, and I'm not sure calling people fools for not trusting Bedford is appropriate? Did I read that you are still trying to get your time to get hired by Republic, or do I have you confused with someone else? If it's the former, I question your judgement about going to work for a company in bankruptcy?
You are indeed correct. I have approximately 1-2 more months left of flying at my current job before I hit 1500 hours. I have already interviewed and received a tentative employment offer which I accepted.
1) As I said above, the Pay CAN NOT be touched.
2) I will be able to be home based at one of their most stable bases
3) I know at least 10-15 pilots, both captains and FO's ranging from ~10 years to December '15 hires that I have all talked with to get a feel for the company. Not one of them has really had a bad thing to say about the company. The only previous gripe was the pay.
I have followed the company prior to BK and all through most of the BK. As it has already been said countless times in this thread and others, while there are a few slight similarities with the others, this BK is really not like the others in the grand scheme of things. The others filed because they couldn't afford not to, Republic filed to increase their bottom line, which had been positive for some time, though very low some quarters.
It's been a while since I saw the exact numbers, but Republic came in with a fleet of approximately 100 Q400's and ERJ-145's on the books. Of those, only approx 20-30 aircraft were actually on property (either sitting or being flown), the rest had all been subleased to other airlines around the world for rates less than what republic was paying.
They have been able to shed a good portion of these aircraft with more to come adding back to their profitability going forward, they have had two contracts amended to pay higher rates with the third coming soon hopefully, staffing has increased, reliability has increased, the pilot contract can't be touched, new aircraft deliveries resuming in 2017... What is so doom and gloom about that?
