It is humor, jump on in anytime you want. You know humor of picking on your competitors that you seem to enjoy......like those lame commercials you guys ran into the ground about bag police, free bags, the judge-Oi Vey! and that nitwit playing the yuckty-yuck geetar-Yeehah!
Sorry WN but Karma is now sitting in your cockpits. As they say it is a B...euat!
Maybe if you guys had kicked off the fat guys and went peanut free you wouldn't have wound up in the grass.

You are a piece of work. I am beginning to wonder if the mental health issues alluded to by SWACapt might be applicable....... Just Humor though!

My initial impression is;
If MDW is trashed due to TRSA+ why not divert? This over run is eerily similar to the Amarillo runway exit. It's always better to sit it out at the price of a few ****ed off PAX than it is to have to fill out a bunch of paper work and risk lives and an airframe.
Especially when you've got about a dozen suitable fields within 100 miles of MDW.
As far as the comments about EMAS I challenge any one of you to make that descion when the blast fence is ground rushing into your face at the end of the runway. I sure as heck don't know that I'd be able to continue straight on at ramming speed.

Be careful out there, wouldn't want anyone to throw mud in your face if you're the next guy to do something like this.

JMHO I don't think that it is unsafe but maybe this accident will make some changes in the runway assignments. I landed at MDW a couple of hours before this and we landed on 22L because the winds were 200/20G27. This crew landed on 13C. I don't know what the winds were when they landed, but I wonder if O'Hare switched runways and they had the flow at MDW switch to 13C. Or maybe the ceiling dropped below circle minimums for 22L.
From the NOAA websight. I think you need 1300-2 (or 2 1/4 for D) for 22L. At right around 13:30 they had the required vis but maybe lost sight of the runway.

We landed just prior to this flight on this snowy January day in 2008. Yeah...it was pretty slick. We took it all the way to the end..pretty slow the last 1000ft and crawled the last 500 ft. Tough to turn off? You bet. These guys,if my memory serves correct, were off on taxiway F which is a ways from the end. F is certainly more convenient when heading towards the terminal but we were not completely stopped by F so we decided to do the slow roll to the end.
Simply put, it seems they decided to turn off at F while going to fast for conditions.
I do believe in the adage "but for the grace of God go I"...but could we honestly say some have more of their fair share than others?
Southwest Airlines flight slides off runway - KHQ Right Now - News and Weather for Spokane and North Idaho |
SPOKANE, Wash. - The runway system was temporarily closed at Spokane International Airport Sunday after an inbound flight lost traction and began sliding after a landing.
Around half a dozen flights are impacted by the closure which is expected to last until 4 p.m.
118 passenger were aboard Southwest Airlines Flight 485, which originated in Albuquerque then traveled through Portland before landing in Spokane.
Passengers aboard the 737 say the landing felt normal when they suddenly felt the tires slipping, and plane seemed to spin 90 degrees.
Southwest used three buses to shuttle the plane's passengers and
five crew members to the terminal.
The aircraft will be removed from service for routine inspection to make sure it wasn't damaged and that mechanical failure did not play a role in the incident, King said. Several airport lights were damaged in the incident, Woodard said.
An initial inspection of the plane didn't reveal any immediate damage, but Southwest suspended its operations in Spokane for the rest of the night, King said.
No damage was reported to the aircraft, and no injuries were reported.
An airport spokesman says the last time an incident like this occured was three years ago, when a Horizon flight slid on the runway.
Stay tuned to KHQ.com for more information.
