And it's Hersman, not Hershman.
Simply typo error, I got it wrong in the first paragraph but in the part below the astericks line, I got it right. And it is news, filed under the political section. She's a NTSB Chair which is a politically appointed position by the President. Next up the Sec of DOT is also a politically appointed position, so I think it's appropriate to be filed under the politics section of news. What's so infactual about the article? Do you have facts to refute what has been presented about her?

She's a political animal (a cougar, perhaps?)

Same as anyone else in that position for the past few decades.

There's nothing to see here.

...until she dons a hazmat suit.

I was on the homepage and clicked on the "news" button. It's not an opinion piece, it is factual from all looks of it.
What's your age got to do with it ? I'm in my 20's and I'd take her on a date. She seems like a smart woman. Regardless of what your opinion is of how she is handling the information, she is by all appearances running a tight, thorough, and professional investigation.

In comparison to AA587, I do believe they have a lot more to work with in this incident. That was an entirely different accident, under extremely different circumstances.

Whether she is gunning for a higher position or not, she is doing her job. Everyone in Washington does things for their own gain. Nothing to see here.

I think you just explained the reason for your original rant. You really don't have much of a clue how the NTSB really works. I'll agree with other comments that you must have quite a fixation on Ms. Hersman. Oh, would you at least learn how to spell her name correctly. Maybe that's why she turned you down for a date.

Deborah Hersman isn't a pilot. No one said she was. She holds several degrees that make her qualified to be an Administrator, which is exactly what her position is. She is intelligent, well spoken and, in my opinion, doing a good job of keeping the uneducated public informed as the investigation unfolds. Her comments are not judgmental nor do they offer conjecture. They are facts as determined by the various skilled teams she manages. By releasing this information, she is, in fact, quelling rampant speculation and not allowing the media to have a feeding frenzy over half truths and inaccurate data.

I would disagree as to labeling her a "politician". She is anything but. She was appointed by President Bush and vetted by both Clinton and the current President. I have no idea what she plans to do after her current term expires but you can start your date off with her by asking that same question.

Having served on two NTSB investigations, I have seen the inner workings of the Board and I believe she is one of the better Chairpersons to hold that position in a decade.

Please tell Ms. Hersman "Hello" from all the guys on this forum.

G'Luck to you also !

I LIKE where you are going with this. Then after taking care of the hot, radioactive spill, she strips down... sloooowly... into the strangely transparent decontamination shower booth, joined by two of her young female NTSB interns to scrub every last bit of the glowing material from her long flowing locks of hair. Suddenly, from above spews forth the decontamination foam which they start to playfully throw at each other..

oh sorry wrong forum.

Exactly. I worked until 10PM yesterday, and not just because I want to be chief of medicine in a few years, but because it is the right thing to do. You can have ambition and still do a good job.

Hersman seems to be an exceptional job as far as I can see, and it is unfortunate to see her "shine" in this way, but we haven't had a major crash in 10+ years if you don't count Buffalo.

Perhaps this thread might be better for ShyGuy - I'm sure if you search you can find her head photoshopped onto a bikini model somewhere.

Facts:

Clad in her NTSB windbreaker, Hersman effortlessly explains "lateral deviation," auto throttles and Papi lights in unflinching tones, as if she has been a pilot for years. She hasn't. She holds a public-policy master's degree in conflict analysis and resolution.
This is an incredibly shortsighted statement and shows a lack of understanding in not only accident investigation but in running a team.

Does she say she is an experienced pilot?
She has a HIGHLY trained team of EXPERT mishap investigators around her who are obviously briefing her in great detail and she seems smart enough to absorb it and then present it in a fashion so the rest of layman America (to include the press which we beat up on consistently on the forum) can get a grip on what happened.

I don't know if that's true. Look at the Colgan crash:

12Feb2009: Colgan 3407 crashes

14Feb2009: NTSB: Crew reported ice buildup before crash"

14Feb2009: NTSB: Plane didn't dive, landed flat on house

15Feb2009: NTSB: Colgan 3407 pitched up despite anti-stall push

15Feb2009: "Too early to tell if icing caused crash, NTSB says".

Completely agree and well said USMC.

Non-pilots can talk about "auto throttles and PAPI lights" and in many instances could understand nuances of a system better than the average pilot. I'm sure that most of those systems were designed by engineers who are non-pilots, too. The overall concepts are not beyond an intelligent layperson, and she could easily study this stuff and be advised by her staff.

Alas, some doctors have this viewpoint, especially when very young or slightly insecure. It is a very hazardous attitude in my field too. Sometimes the nurse or medical student has a critical piece of information. Arrogance or snobbery can be fatal.

Maybe it should be on the FAA commercial written. Attitude: You're not a pilot, thus you know nothing about aviation. Antidote: I may be able to learn from those with specialized knowledge; I don't know everything.

We can't wait until you turn 21 and can actually write an intelligent response on this forum !

What does the word "infactual" mean and what are you trying to ask with your last question ?

BTW, congratulations on "getting it right" the second time around. Deborah will be quite impressed.

G'Luck to You Mate. You're going to need it !
