Quote: The hushpuppies loafers that I found in the store in DTW ops are by far my favorite shoes I've ever had, FWIW.
+1 on hush puppies. Silly name, but incredibly comfortable. Spring the extra few bucks for a comfy pair of shoes. I went cheap with some Deer Stags once, and I was miserable. Very tough leather.

For a bag, I've had good luck with this Timbuk2 bag (size small). Very high quality. TSA-friendly for your laptop, slides onto your suitcase handle, plenty of space without being too bulky, and a rational number of pockets for organizing without going overboard. It's on Amazon Prime. Also completely usable for non-work purposes.

What's the headset prodical in the 7ER? Does it have an intercom? I'm guessing most people take the headset off at altitude? What do the people who are paranoid about their hearing do?

If I wear a headset will I be known as a "headsetter" in the same way long sleeve people are known as "long sleeves"? I want to be able to hear in old age but I want to fit in more.

I've seen it all in the ER. I wear a UFLy and leave it on the whole flight. There is an intercom but NO ONE uses it. Some did on the 737 and I don't remember the 320. As for people labeling - that doesn't happen here. A person could carry a colored bag, wear his coat and hat year round and like cats and NO ONE could give a rip. Do your job, and do it well and the rest is just fun.

Good luck - Baja.

If you use the ships set, unplug it after use and stow it away. Other than that, headsets and boom mics have to be used from the start of the "Before Start" checklist to FL180, and from FL180 to the end of the "Shutdown" checklist.

If you are worried about your hearing, these work when you aren't wearing a headset.
Earinc/Insta-Mold - Foam Earplugs

I use a pair of Telex 750s. Don't have any problems.

I believe by intercom he means hot mike for ICS. That is not available on any Delta aircraft.

And, with a high tech rubber band, all 737 aircraft.

I've been on the 737 for two years. Ive only had one guy do the rubber band trick. Is it more prevailant than that at other bases? Are we a little backwards in CVG?
