I've been in training for about a month now. The training has been really great and in depth. The first 2 weeks is all ground school then you move onto the Flows, Sim, and Flight portion, theres 16 units for SICs. That portion of training should take about 4 weeks.

SICs tend to be based on the longer routes. Billings MT has a lot of SICs just because they rack up 7+ flight hours a day.

Thanks so much for the info. How would you say the FO situation is in St. Louis or its outstations? So far the midwest is where I would like to be, but if the flying is significantly more abundant in MT then I'll plan to head that way. I'm aiming to upgrade ASAP after getting through training so the more flying available the better.

How much time are you projecting to be at by your class date?

Cape Air just announced a few weeks ago that they have new routes between Decatur, St. Louis and Chicago and FOs will be based on those routes so they will be opening up very soon.

I'll be lucky to be at 500TT by class in late May or early June. Currently sitting about 440TT with 170 Multi-engine.

I did see that Cape picked up the Decatur route so I'm hoping that increases my chances of staying in the midwest.

Just accepted a job offer as a FO with Cape Air. Class date on the 26th next month.

I hoping that I can get a 4/4 schedule and commute to my base. Any guys have an opinion on how realistic that could be? How does the base bidding go after training is complete?

Welcome!
All FO schedules are 4 on 4 off, you could definitely commute, the ease of the commute depends on where you live and where you are based. You would most likely need a small apartment/crashpad/rent a room in base.
The way the bidding worked for my class, since my class was big (8) and there was a prior class (6) still in training at the same time they sent out an interim vacancy bid packet, you then list the bases from top choice to least then depending on seniority you are assigned a base. You can always request another base if you don't get the one you want in the beginning, FOs move quickly so bases are always opening up. Unless you want Billings, Billings is always open.
