Sounds to me like the individual in question tried and failed to keep this under the radar.
A letter in your file is a letter in your file no matter how trivial as that wasn’t the question.

It’s like a suspension of your certificate by the FAA, doesn’t matter if it was for a single day or for 90 days.

“Has your certificate ever been suspended?”

-Yes

It’s got nothing to do with fairness though.
But a lie is a lie even if it’s by omission.
Present employer I was asked during a break in Indoc to have a brief chat with Head of Security.
Something needed clarification.
I’m 100% sure he already knew the answers to the couple of questions he asked about my background.

And ‘the day before Thanksgiving’ part?
That’s a little over the top.

He should’ve fought this with union help. At least he would’ve gotten some further interaction from the company and the possibility of pleading his case. Please advise him to attempt to reach back out to the union rep. They’ve helped guys in his position or similar positions in the past.

If this is true and I say if because it is from an anonymous poster about something they saw on Facebook, then the union gave him good advice. The guy was in new hire training. If the company wanted to fire him for brushing his teeth with Crest instead of Colgate they could. The guy mislead on his application.

Without knowing all the ins and outs I don’t think you have that level of Union protection during your probationary year....anywhere.

I never received an email nor a phone call from any manager to give me an opportunity to provide my feedback. Basically I was thrown out to the dogs.
Is this how business is conducted elsewhere?

It seems unfortunate that new hires on probation lack union protections and these sorts of issues are not addressed at a lower level first. This is the second story I've heard of at purple in the last two weeks where an individual was given the "resign or we'll fire you and tarnish your record" ultimatum.

It's interesting because in interviews, HR likes to hear about how applicants have people skills and can pull colleagues aside and ask questions or make corrections as needed without issues being elevated. But in both stories I've heard, the probation pilot had zero chance at interaction with the accused party or their own management team. I'm all for holding individuals accountable and loyalty and integrity are extremely important to me, but is this the right way of going about it?

Pretty much, the 2 Airlines I worked at prior to this one all had probationary periods of a year. Though they started from hire date and not your check ride date.

It sounds pretty clear cut to me. Was he disciplined? Yes. Did he answer the question truthfully? No.

If these events were as trivial as he says, he still would have been hired after he explained his situation. Lots of people get hired with bigger issues, and as long as you were truthful, it’s not a big deal. Sometimes people use these issues in their interview to show the company that they’ve made mistakes and learned from them.

Very few people get fired from Fedex. Stealing and lying will get you fired. They allow mistakes and as long as you didn’t intentially break the rules, you’re probably ok (bring guns through security unintentionally is an exception).

How in the heck would they have discovered this? A letter in your file isn't on your PRIA. I guess foreign carriers share more information than US carriers about former employees. Regardless this situation sucks badly for the guy in question, I hope he's able to find someplace with healthcare quickly.
