Here’s a good article about rescheduling language and a little bit of what we may expect. We can be paid more, but what about being expected to be available for 14 hours a day. When these situations arise unexpectedly does anyone else see our fatigue calls dramatically increasing under this new contract?

Ah yes, luv it.
Exactly what people are concerned with happening here with the reassignment language is happening elsewhere. NO WAY.

ALPA sees it as an issue yet our team is encouraging us to sign off on it as no big deal. “Your at work right, what’s the big deal?”

So American is increasingly using the loose reassignment language as a crutch and their pilots wants to change it, but we’re fine with it here.

Like I said, ALPA already knows this and our guys are encouraging us to go along with it.

Leaders of the Air Line Pilots Association say they’re determined to change work rules in their contract that date back to Delta’s emergence from bankruptcy in 2007. They begin talks on a new labor agreement in April. APA, which represents aviators at American, also will seek contract changes when negotiations with American start in January.

“The whole reroute issue is supposed to be an exception in the contract” for times when operations are disrupted, said Chad Smith, a Delta captain and head of the union’s negotiating committee. “We want the contract to allow for that. But more and more, it’s being used as an everyday tool for the convenience of the company.”

Your right it’s not the same. If ours goes into your day off you get 5hr.
Spirit get 200% on top of guarantee.
DAL also gets on top of guarantee.

ALPA already has issue with the reassignment policies. How is it even on the table for us?

Exactly. I see reassignment happening all the time in our airports with a crew base or even outstation if any hiccup would make a reassignment faster for the company to cover than wait for a reserve to get there. It will cost them, but not as much as system delays and especially any cancellations. I guess gone are the days of knowing what you are doing when you head to the airport. Better have your personal battery fully charged for a full duty day every time you go to work or call in fatigued.

If ALPA and APA are looking to fix the reassignment language, but we just essentially gave them the opportunity to really mess with us during our footprint this language was a BIG loss for us. Line holders are also on reserve effectively every trip within the footprint. I really don’t think the pay penalty will deter them from using the heck out of us. American pilots rescheduled 33% during the summer. F that.

It depends what you mean by off day. They are not supposed to schedule us outside of the footprint of our original trip, but many trips have a full calendar day free from duty. Some will consider that an off day (especially if it happens to be at home). These days are fair game. Also, example 2 does not give me the warm and fuzzies that we’re going to be able to enforce the whole “footprint” argument anyway.

Serious question,
What if your plane breaks on the last leg home, or on the 2nd to last leg from a city that has no direct service to your domicile? What is the company’s obligation since it is likely that they can’t physically get you back to domicile before your scheduled duty off.

Spirit gets you 200% for the scheduled day off, so a minimum of 10 hours for that day (5 min duty period X 2)

Another honest question...
What if you are on a 4 day trip. Day 4 cancels, and you fly Day 4 duty period on Day 5. Assuming the trip had 4 DPs, and AMDP was driving the trip. You would have been paid 20 hours for the trip, How much will you be paid now?


Second scenario, 4 day 3 DP trip. Day 4 cancels and you fly Day 4 on Day 5. AMDP was driving the trip(assume no override for long layover). So the trip originally paid 15 hours. How much will you be paid.


Third example you are on a 3 day trip worth 18 hours, no soft time. Day 3 cancels(it was worth 6 hours) and you fly 1 leg back to domicile on day 4(worth 3 hours) How much will you be paid?
