Quote: All Sears and Roebuck had to do was embrace the internet to put their catalog online and Amazon would never have existed. But management said “We’ve used the mail order catalog for over 100 years, we know what we’re doing.”

Alaska is Sears. The writing is on the wall. Will they embrace the new or do what they’ve always done?
How is that even a remotely close analogy.... I mean I guess they're both businesses. Everyone here myself included to an extent was complaining about how we weren't growing and capturing all these supposed new markets and now look where we're at. Doesn't seem like it was an all bad decision, sure some will say that AS drags their feet but maybe not rushing to do what the rest of the market is doing isn't a bad thing. This company isn't perfect and things could certainly be better but can someone tell me which is the perfect airline to work for cause I have a lot of friends who thought somewhere else was the answer and everyone of them has gotten a WARN letter and I'd hate to see it actually turn into a furlough.

Thanks for saying that.

Nothing will make me forget how inflexible and unproductive our schedules are. Nothing will make our complete lack of scope worry me any less. And I won't soon forgive the laundry list of broken promises by this management, clear lack of regard for pilots' lives WRT base closures and bids, etc. All of those things will always directly affect pilots in tangible ways.

But running a company and keeping it in business is above all of our paygrades. Especially in light of recent circumstances, now might be a great time for pilots to shut the hell up for a while and stop pretending they know more about business, marketing, route planning, ticket pricing, etc than the people who are paid to make those decisions.

NOT saying stop advocating for our collective interests. I'm just sick of the backseat driving.

There are many remote places in Alaska, and elsewhere, where the Sears and Roebuck catalog hung in the outhouse. Though I preferred Montgomery Wards. Fewer colored pages. They are slicker and have a tendency to smear when used.

Amen brother.....I will never stop fighting for current contract compliance and will always advocate for improvements in the next contract. I don’t now nor have I ever cared for the Anglers. I don't share their views and their values. I don’t like Seattle. But I do have respect for the skippers that have steered this ship for the last 22 years. I don’t for a moment believe that I have the knowledge or education or experience to be the skipper. In general, pilots make incredibly poor managers of companies....For the crowd that knows it all...Start with the effin contract and when you are done reading and understanding that read
and understand the effin FOM....Thank you

Boeing has a recent history of making excellent cost cutting decisions, like on the Max for example, so I'm sure this will all work out just fine.

They do apparently have some QC issues down there...

Anyone else think that adding PSP-RNO, PSP-BOI & PSP-SJC is a total slap in the face to any Alaska and Horizon Pilot since Skywest is being used, especially in the times we are finding ourselves in!?

My guess....For sure just out prospecting. Once it is not flown by pilots on the Alaska Airlines seniority list then it is outsourced. At least on 3000 series flights we are able to use our contractually guaranteed commuter status and have better boarding status. I would prefer that Alaska Airlines did not have a wholly owned regional airline. It muddies the waters.

I'm totally with you, but do you really think they care?
