Just want to chime in to say that crew meals are on par with the former conversation of who empties the lav when considering coming to work for a company.

You'll eat. The cost is covered and the high price of some crew meals is from the catering company which is mostly an expedited or delivery fee or both. All the company does is order them, confirm the order, pay it, and move on.

Look at it this way, our company is willing to pay $90 to make sure it's employees get a banana.

Haven't heard anything about hiring, but I'm not really paying attention.

I’m almost certain this has been asked in here before, but the search feature is not letting me find it.

How strict are they on the 100 mi distance from a reporting airport? Is 115 miles something they would consider within wiggle room?

(whenever they hire again, of course)

The times are different now but when I was there I lived like 110 miles away and it was fine. I knew people who were further, but now it's a different market and I'm sure they have tons of people trying to beat down the door to get in.

They're concerned that you will be able to get to work on time. If you're remote based (I think that still means other than pdk and psm, but I could be wrong) it's mostly a non issue as you'll be commuting, so the 3 hour wheels up home standby rule wouldn't be the norm. Certainly not if you're based somewhere like Richmond or Raleigh. You'd spend most of your time being 2 hours wheels up from the Hampton inn in Portsmouth, or at PSM with 1 hour for your standby. But again, I could be very wrong. I'm only speaking from what I've seen, not experienced.

Bottom line, if you can convince them that you can be at work on time, and have it be more than "I swear it won't be a problem" I think you'll be ok within reason.

I haven't heard anything about hiring, but I have not asked.

The 100 miles distance is not highway miles but a direct line. They are flexible in this however as they are more concerned with you being at the base within 2 hours, even for remotes. So 115 miles from the airport should be doable if you can drive it in under 2 hours.
As for hiring I've heard from reliable sources that they are not planning on any hiring until fall as no pilots are leaving. However that could change if the economy changes and the airline start hiring again.

Appreciate the info, great to know it’s also straight line distance and not by roadways.

Totally understand on them not hiring in the near term. Just looking to have as much info as possible for whenever movement in the industry starts again.

The word now from the Chief Pilots is that there will be a new hire class in May. However the application window will not be opened and they will be using the applications already on file. The preference for interviews will be those with internal recommendations.
