Quote: Go to the 7ER, it's an amazing machine for it's age! This way, in 30 yrs from now, you too can come onto the web and lament how no plane is as well built (pilot wise) as the 757!
Oh I agree. Awesome looking as well. I did see on widget that a new hire initially got the 7ER but then it switched to the 350 out of ATL. That’s an eternity on reserve right? Like might not even fly very much.

Not really. On the WB fleets at DAL, it's not uncommon to be too junior to hold reserve, because WB reserve is often just that good of a deal. In Nov, the plug and deputy plug both received lines. You may find that you actually prefer reserve lol.

Smaller WB category, you'd be surprised. Reserve is often limited and goes relatively senior. A look at the lines for 350B in ATL for NOV reveals that the bottom two pilots got assigned lines, and reserve is dispersed throughout the list.

WB reserve is not a bad gig, as there is a lot less 1,2,3 day trips to ever cover. When on WB reserve and you get your availability down to 4 day blocks you are only really usable maybe day 1 or 2, that's it.

That being said, on the 350 for now, you'll have your pick of maybe 4 or 5 far off destinations to enjoy for the month, many ending on redeye back to ATL. That being said, you'll often have multiple pilots (dozing for dollars) and more days off generally (just may not feel 100% upon recovering from multiple time zones).

As a new hire, I'd take the 7ER while you can, again, you'll have the next 30yrs to enjoy a 350 variant and experience the pleasure of programming an airplane.

Quote: 3 weeks ago, someone I know with a first week August CJO, got a first week November class date.
How is this possible? I'm an early August CJO and have been told to anticipate late December, potentially the first class in January...

I think the interviewers have a general idea when classes should start but not what's really happening. I think the guys that are getting a early start date compared to everyone else know someone or have worked for the company before. I know that the airline I work for now classified me as a rehire and that gave me a sooner start date for some reason.

The plug won't have the seniority to hold A350 reserve in the winter. Better bid a line just in case.

So people actually can get a line that quick on the 350? Haven’t had a look at what the trips look like. From what I’ve been told, the 7ER has some flexibility when it comes to 1,2,3,4,5 day trips.

If by “flexibility” you mean around 40% of the entire bid package being 1, 2, or 3 day trips, then yes.
