Concur it would make the most sense to have LAX be the default for all Pacific ops, unless there just weren’t enough crews with SEA closing.
NYC pilots get no Asia, but LAX wants Europe.

Didn’t their council recently demand it?

We don’t do any Asia and haven’t for almost 3 years? Lol.

The council 16 email was about out of base Europe flying (departures from CVG, RDU, BOS, DTW) where we have handfuls of LAX/SEA crews overnighting but trips built for NYC crews with a double deadhead out to those airports for pilots to fly to Europe. Council 16 said they purely asked for a 4 way split if the out of base European departures, which seems fair. Not to come to your bases and take your international departures.

keep in mind the same month they sent that email out we lost every GUA/SAL/SJO departure to NYC/ATL (our in base flying) for the entire month while we had to pick up the ATL-Florida shuttles to make up for the lost block hours.

For some reason this really rattled ATL crews online that someone other than ATL wanted to do their own flying and/or equitable share of international departures that are non-based. But hey let’s wait and see how much PPT are in their bid packets next month or HND in March. I’m glad C16 spoke up about it and nothing they said seemed unfair or out of reach. If any of you were in same scenario with your bid packets I’m sure you’d wish your local councils did the exact same…

Just got the CJO and looking to be Seattle based. So, what do you mean with SEA closing?

Yes. In a recent Council update.

Other bases are doing the 8 hour island turns in NYC that locals like too. I’m not sure why LAX are always up at arms. Same council that wanted to sink the UNAs.

If this is the context you want to twist it to that is fine but it’s all out there for everyone to read and C16 never advocated to take any of your in base flying. Context matters…

but when being outraged on the forums it doesn’t help your narrative so we will let you continue on…

We like our Latin America that you guys get to snag as well when Europe isn’t seasonal. Maybe we should cut that off and you can head down to ATL for the winter and help us out flying 75’s to RSW 11x a day?

Either way the point of the C16 email was not to change the way we make pairings since they are always complex. It was more to get us to question why a base would get double-DH’s to fly to Europe when we had a massive amount of crews overnighting in those airports (and flew those intl trips pre-Covid) all while also losing your own in base international flying that you’ve always had to same said out of base. Imagine the scenario if that was reversed.

I mean I accept other bases come and do our flying, and we do others. It’s a network. I see crews doing trips I would like, but then get some decent stuff from their base. It doesn’t rattle me at all. From a system perspective, why would LAX crews fly transcons to outstations, then the Europe stuff? Take CVG CDG. Easy to cover from ATL with a quick hop up to Covington. Having an LAX crew do a 6 day trip to Europe would be an event for sure. It’s a limit on what they can do to get the crew there. What outside base stuff is there? CVG, RDU? You’re limited by the legs to get the crews to those stations.

Quick glance at the 330 pack shows plenty of bases headed into NYC for flying. It’s just the way it is. I’m not rustled.

We overnight there anyways. What you’re talking about here was how we built trips out of ER bases on west coast pre-Covid anyways? We have always had transcon overnight in BOS or ATL leg to RDU overnight then blast over to Europe. So much so they did build some of these this summer but we are talking about 1 or 2 a month. The share of the Europe out of base CVG/BOS/RDU was like 3 to the west coast and 50+ to NYC/ATL.

Either way I just accepted it for what it is. We go to Hawaii and East coast goes to Europe. My whole first post was not me trying to complain, it’s more giving a new hire the message that LAX will not be flying to Europe, and what we get you’ll never touch. That’s just how it is. The whole point now is just defending what C16 said which I don’t think was unfair at all. It’s not like they are stomping their feet saying give us your Prague and Copenhagen. It’s simply where is the share for something you could build very easily and efficiently, as they have before.

Right I getcha. I’d love to get some Asia from NYC, but very little 330 flying there it seems, so until we get the Tree Fiddy it won’t happen. It’s just a lesson here to never bid a plane based on destination for newhires (and anybody). I remember JFK LHR switched between 3 fleets in 3 summers (ER, 330, 764).
