Quote: A secondhand birdie told me that he heard from a reliable source in the hiring department that they most likely won't hire any this year. And possibly not next year either.

I've personally moved on and found a great landing spot.
Good for you. As the previous poster suggested, this place, while it's still a fine job overall and I'm not sorry to be here, is not the be-all-end-all in any way.

I can easily see no more hiring this year, provided they don't place any additional orders or something else unexpected. 2024 with no hiring seems like a pretty big lift, though, given the retirement outlook.

Quote: Good for you. I wouldn’t lose any sleep about not getting on at UPS. There are soooo many good opportunities out there. Grab a seniority number at a major airlinws near where you live and never look back.
And the tide will turn at some point as it always does. Cyclical nature of the business. People are going to stop flying as much soon, revenge flying money will be over soon, return to more normal levels. While hiring may not stop altogether, 100-200 per month is definitely not going to last much longer.

You say this so matter of fact that it makes you sound even more unbelievable. Anybody who has been around this industry more than 2 minutes should realize that nobody has a crystal ball. Have you paid attention to retirement numbers and aircraft acquisitions at the other carriers? You might be surprised at what you find. Anyway, if making baseless statements makes you feel better about your life decisions then I'm happy for you. Back to the original post regarding not hiring this year or next, name another airline besides FedEx that isn't hiring right now, let alone all of next year. Not good

The Legacies have been making predictions they will be at XX,XXX pilots, XXX airframes forever. It’s all smoke and PR. Not saying the will stop hiring, just saying they will most likely slow down soon. People hired in 2024 and beyond are not going to see the meteoric rise those hired in the last few years have seen.

The challenge for someone looking to start at their career destination airline is to find the best deal for them that is available right now. We and FedEx aren’t currently options. I’m guessing we will continue to be the more stable/profitable option, but if my kids were applying today they would be targeting Delta, United, and American. Holding out for UPS at a regional, ULCC, or ACMI when you have a legacy job offer in hand would be foolish.

Might sound contradictory, but agree 100%. Take the best option available and then decide if you want to make a change.
