Might not be a sort but phl has a ton of 2day air in the afternoons

UPS Officially Informs IPA of Network Changes

This morning, UPS informed the IPA of network changes that will occur due to significantly lower volume levels in the system.

Beginning in Bid Period 5 (July), UPS intends to cease the DFW NDA sort, the PHL 2nd Day Air sort, as well as some reductions to contractual postal flying.

The IPA pressed the Company on any discussion of potential crew staffing reductions as a result of these changes. UPS maintains that there is currently no plan to reduce staffing beyond what will be absorbed through anticipated attrition.

The IPA will communicate further information as it is available.

Worth noting for context, the Chief Pilot Newsletter from today made no mention of the reductions to the network (instead, highlighted UPS welcoming the first 2 of 27 767s to be delivered by 2026). The new aircraft will “help meet anticipated future demand in high-growth areas like healthcare, small business, and international markets”. IMO, will be more concerning if they start messing with the delivery schedule.

Ok. please define a ton. I am looking at the PHL departure schedule and cant find a day with over 4 departures between 10am and 9pm. Let me know what I am doing wrong.

If we truly are having a slowdown like this then the pax carriers aren’t far behind.

For those interested in Brown, keep in mind UPS staffs our airline for peak volume levels making us fat for the rest of the year.

Correct……Pax are a lagging indicator of the economy. It may take a year or so for them to ****e the bed, but they will…… like always…..it’s the cycle. It’s always a surprise to the new guys, but it’s a wash rinse and repeat cycle, what……every 7-10 years or so? Right?

Wrong. Covid outlier aside, the last pax downturn was in ‘09 and full consolidation in the industry hadn’t taken place yet; also age 65 was working its way through the seniority lists. Different landscape now.

Agree. His quote will not age well. In previous cycles families put off trips to see grandma and companies cutback on business trips. The advancements of online meetings has made those decisions even easier.

A secondhand birdie told me that he heard from a reliable source in the hiring department that they most likely won't hire any this year. And possibly not next year either.

I've personally moved on and found a great landing spot.

Good for you. I wouldn’t lose any sleep about not getting on at UPS. There are soooo many good opportunities out there. Grab a seniority number at a major airlinws near where you live and never look back.
