Quote: Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but I don’t really deal
with that either at a pax carrier. Not catered? Bags not loaded? Ok, let me know when we are. I move at the same speed regardless.
IROPs and weather happen everywhere. Sure, we try to find smoother air and worry about a seatbelt sign.

For the most part, passengers are a positive thing. You get to be more like the grandparent. Show kids the cockpit and hand out wings. Say goodbye to some after the flight if you want. People are friendly to you out in the terminal. You answer some silly questions, but nobody dislikes you and you are never the enforcer. Any old captain in the back addressing passengers about behavior is doing it wrong.

Someone else pointed out FedEx is going through their rough patch. I agree. It sucks now, but Southwest was the worst place in the history of the world to work a few months ago (according to their forums). Now they are bragging about being the highest paid 737 pilots in the world. In about a year, everyone at FedEx will be back to being obnoxious after a great contract is signed. Then I will be back to questioning my life decisions. It’s a vicious cycle. In the end, we all hate the job we love so much.
Yeah, there's definitely those pilots at the pax airlines that close the door and are never heard from again. I could never do that. I always hated it as a passenger when pilots did that, and did what I could to keep my pax informed while working through stuff that I could control (as a former RJ pilot, I'm also great at setting the brake and checking out for stuff I can't control). I flew charter and corporate before the airlines, so customer service was ingrained in me.

I get it that some pilots love the pax interaction. One of the sim instructors at my regional said one of the best parts about our job was wearing the uniform, walking around the airport, essentially basking in the admiration of the passengers around you. I almost started laughing at him when he said that, as I did my best to stay away from the general public as much as possible at the airport. I'm not saying that's you, but some pilots absolutely thrive on the pax interaction and that's definitely not me (despite my obligation to communicate as much as possible for IROP stuff).

I think I did an above average job dealing with pax, but it took a lot of energy and I'm definitely grateful to not deal with it anymore. But if I had to, I could certainly do it again and be very good at it. Trust me, if I could go back in time I would absolutely take my United class from six years ago.

How's their insurance rates and property taxes.? Smart move if they didn't over buy.

Quote: Not, rich guy, smart with my money. You one of the new hires that thought the draft/vol Covid gravy train would last for ever and bought a captain mansion on 2nd year pay? Flew your ass off during contract negotiations and continue to do so to make ends meet?
incorrect. Hired after the “gravy train” already ended and am one of the lowest paid pilots in the industry and would have still been able to hold that title had your precious pat pancake pension bump low pay TA passed. RJ captains making more than 757 pilots flying night hub turns. What a world.

Should have stayed at your regional if you can't stomach being junior during contract negotiations.

that's almost as good as "if you don't like it you should leave"

btw I sincerely hope our junior pilots are looking elsewhere. Why waste time in this fight if you have better options available and not a ton of seniority to make it worth staying?

And you will get a lot of idiotic ones from a hand full of the same posters with their crying post.

What are you doing to help us get a contract besides crying on here. You think the company cares what you cry about other than to laugh about it over coffee in the morning.

True.

I voted down an unworthy TA. I stay informed on issues and candidates positions. I vote in every eligible election for like-minded canditates, and take every survey to inform bargaining positions. I show up to union activities that I'm available for. And I fly my line and take time off with family. Beyond that I expect the union officials who ran to represent me to execute a good plan. If they don't, I'll vote to fire them. What have you done?

No. I don't think the company cares at all. Which is why scope is issue #1!

Yes, Need to do all of the above and more. If you can't figure out what the more is we will get what the company gives us.
