Quote: Good questions, not sure exactly how they are going to do single pilot 135 scheduled ops , but I'm sure its some waiver or LOA they have and involves an autopilot. Mabye they will have some FO's on the 402's I guess. NightIp can you fill us in on how this works for your op-spec.
I'm pretty sure they have no problem with this. For the amount of flying they do in the Northeast they have to be able to do IFR. They also already have the EAS routes in NY. So they definitely have already been through this before with EAS and received approval. Correct me though if I'm wrong.

Oh I believe you completely, I'm just interested in the mechanics of how. The guy I asked to clarify is a 9K capt. Ive talked to before....

Quote: Does Cape Air fly in IFR conditions? These cities will be IFR only close to 50 - 60 days a year.

My only experience with 9K (all great, btw) are the Florida & San Juan ops with single pilots.
Haa thats a joke right.. Does Cape Air fly IFR.. Does a bear **** in the woods

Oh okay. No worries. Just didn't know if you knew that. You'd be surprised how many people I talk to even in this industry that have no idea Cape Air exists. Kinda strange but I guess if you don't pay attention to the East Coast then you could miss them. But I probably shouldn't assume that considering how knowledgeable everyone on this board is.

Thats exactly it; a co-pilot is not required with less than 10 pax seats as long as there is a functioning autopilot. There are some co-pilots in the sysem for guys with less than 100hrs in type or deferred Autopilots.

Haha, I actually had a passenger on a RUT-BOS flight ask me what we do if the weather is IFR. I almost asked: "Have you ever been to the northeast, dude?" We'd shut down everyday if we couldn't go IFR...

I'd say this summer I was IFR 75%+ of the time due to the weather, and in the Mid-Atlantic we're IFR 100% of the time due to the DC SFRA. I think I can count the number of days I've been assigned an FO on one hand...

FlyingChipmunk gave the low-down, but I just wanted to mention that every flight we do is scheduled 135, EAS or not.

Sorry, I didn't mean to rile anyone's britches. I've flown Cape Air over the past 7 years and its been VFR all the time. I didn't realize the regs don't require an FO for 10 seats or less. And airlines in Florida (Yellow Air, FCA, Island Express) had to fly with 2 pilots in IFR conditions, but I assume that's tied to either international travel (bahamas) or insurance.
