Quote: Back in 2006 when there was hiring going on...LL had told me that unless you had 250 PIC within the last 2 years, it was very unlikely that you would get called for an interview. That was not published anywhere...but some how I think it was built into the parameters input to the computer that spit out the names for the interviews.
I've heard that too. From what I learned in my interview prep four years ago, that was important back then.

SWA wants guys who want to work/fly. They're not always successful at culling that quality from the herd but they get a lot of those kind of guys. Guys who aren't afraid to work extra as long as they're getting paid for it.

I've yet to meet a pilot at any airline who wouldn't love to work hard as long as they were gonna get paid for it. Certainly not unique to wn.

If this is the case, then I definitely wasted my time/money getting the type.

Quote: Last I heard, we're interviewing internals only for pilot positions right now for classes that will start after the poolies are done. There is currently no word on hiring beyond that and they haven't opened up the application window to the public
Can someone explain this to me? What does hiring internals mean? I would think that meant hiring current Southwest employees. But if you were a current SW employee in a different department and not already a pilot for them, wouldn't that mean you would be far out of currency flying requirements? Maybe I'm misunderstanding what this is. Thanks

1000 PIC is required, not just recommended, so at this point you wouldn't be considered at all. You need at least 1000 PIC to even apply.
Unless you currently work at Air Tran..........

Primarily guys from the training department.

For example, back in my training class there was a guy who had been a sim instructor for a few years for SWA while furloughed from AA/TWA. I'm sure we have some other dudes who are sim instructors who are still young enough.

I don't think we'll be able to get more than 12 dudes who meet the requirements from internally.

Ok, thanks a bunch for this clarification!

And they really liked the regional check airman.

I think you'll need 250 orbits on the shuttle, not the ISS, but they might make a waiver for it if you show up at the interview with a NASA tie that has your mission patch on it.

Don't forget the Wild Turkey and the cake!
