Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told by several sources that SkyWest got rid of their PPO more than a year and a half ago. I was told that all they had now were various forms of high deductible health plans.

Quote: As long as the company can reap massive economy-of-scale savings from their huge operation, they can lower the bar all they want as far as pay-for-lift goes. That's win-win for the company, the pilots, the major partner, and the flying public...everybody but the small inefficient regionals.

Different matter entirely if they try to lower the bar by cutting pilot pay, but SKW pilots still get paid a lot more than mesa pilots.
Good for them if they can pull it off..Time will tell.

My interpretation is that they (MANAGEMENT) are also getting their foot in the door for the 900 flying in 2015 that comes up again for bidding.Or any other Airways RJ flying that comes up.

FWIW.. 3rd year FO pay at K4 will be what I'm making (per hour) as a 11 year CA on the 900, actually I will make more when you consider per diem and the difference in insurance cost.Do some research on Evergreens pay scale for the 747 compared to K4. And yes Atlas is better.Having a 747 PIC type rating is more valuable down the road than 2 RJ types.

Just wondering, if kalitta has to furlough 45 pilots by parking the 200s and you are the one of the 45......would you be happy to hear that your union is negotiating 3 hrs reduce the min guarrante per month from all pilots in order to keep you on the property or would prefer the street........

That's the risk of this industry. Do I stay at Mesa and hope ALPA can convince OJ to give us a pay raise, gain more business and lower our benefits cost. I don't have that much faith on either side of the two
Or,will Mesa even be around or turn into a Comair situation where they shrink down to where I'm a 12 year FO making $37 hr.

For the month of Aug, attrition at Mesa is already 7.

Or do I take my chances at K4 in hopes of not getting furloughed.I have spent lots of hours going over the negatives of both and I came up with more negatives staying at Mesa than making the jump to K4.Just hope I'm right.

Sorry but your sources are incorrect, i have the PPO plan now. Not sure if it went away for a while, but it is here now.

...We are (and have been) seeing a marked reduction in our benefits here at SKW. We are working much harder with fewer options than in the past....Still, when I look at most of the regional/national industry, SkyWest seems to be among the more attractive options.
I appreciate your candor and wish that none of us were facing reduced pay and benefits. Sadly, this cancer has spread throughout many professions. One of the things that is going very wrong in our country is the shrinking middle class. Shrinking in terms of real earnings and in numbers of people living at that income level. I think attitudes like yours are partly to blame. Too many of us continue to smile and assert how "neat-o" the company is as we get bent over. Money that used to go into your pocket is now going into someone else's. I cannot put a smiley face on that.

The real "job creators" belong to a large, expanding, vibrant middle class with a lot of money to spend. The last time in our nation's history the super-rich managed to accumulate so much of the nation's wealth was just before the Great Depression of 1929. [mod edit: delete politics]
