Quote: All but one of the 1825 postings are internal only. Only one is public and that's for Queens, NY.

Any idea when I should start seeing more public openings? I have a ASI buddy who said I can either wait for their office or go to another nearby and transfer over.

In my opinion I'd say whatever gets you on board sooner is the way to go. Changes happen - Regions going away, more work going to DPE's, shifting towards more ASA's and AST's, recent hiring freeze scare, etc. if it's what you want and you can do at least a year in initial locale I'd say go for it. I don't know why there haven't been any public postings since the nationwide closed in April. There are LOTS of GA openings but no one is able to apply from outside. Hopefully that will change soon.

Yeah I just saw the public openings arn't really "public". It's FAA wide just not within the FSDO domain. So there are currently no "U.S. Citizen" openings.

Yeah I talked to a team lead at the local FSDO a few days ago when I called for another matter. He said they are very very short handed and would love to hire but can't until the new budget. So I'm guessing early fall before we see any FG-9/11 openings.

The local FSDO is a statewide one with 4 ASI and they're still short a guy or two.

GS-9/11? If you've got any qualifications at all don't take less than a 12. You'll be ****ed in Indoc when you see everyone else there is a higher grade.

Yeah I was a 141 CFI and Check Airman. I also helped start up a new 141 program so I have experience in drafting and getting documents approved. I was also the school's safety officer and was starting an ASAP program. I hold two type ratings in transport category aircraft.

It's a gray area if I even meet 11 standards. I'd meet a 12 grade if our region allowed 141 schools to be self examining.

What else do they base a 12 on?

Whenever you fill out the application, you will select what you think you qualify for. The job postings are for 11 or 12. Some guys with less experience come in at 12 vs some guys with more experience come in at 11. The reason behind this is because it depends on what you put on your application.

Yeah, this is true. But what is also true is if you put a 12 down and your office is budgeted to hire at an 11, your name will not even make it to the list for consideration. I've always advocated to people to get in touch with th FSDO they want to go to and try to find out at what pay they are hiring. Then you can pay a legit decision if you are willing to accept a 9/11 bc that might be the only way you get hired.

Any GA guys here like to describe their normal working day? From earlier in this thread, I know they work hard, just curious what a typical day is like.
