And no I’m not sorry. Should I feel sorry for pilots when they strike? It’s all part of the possible work scenarios you should plan for. Unfortunately our society leases cars and puts dinner on credit cards so inconveniences become nightmares.

This isn’t a strike

Everyday I realize pilots are more pompous and out of touch than ever. Get over yourselves, just because you fly a jet doesn't mean you're better than anyone.

I fail to see how calling out a pompous, self-important series of posts from fellow pilots who seem to have no empathy for their fellow Americans, as "an inspiration of how not to act:.... If you look a my posting history, I am often standing up for others. I was raised to believe that was a GOOD thing, although I'm not trying to inspire anyone.

And having walked a picket line before, I do feel sorry for everyone involved in a strike... Yes, furloughs, strikes, economic meltdowns, life threatening illness... I have experienced them all, and survived them all. Maybe that is why I have more sympathy than average....

I am sorry that I have failed to inspire you, but it is hard to add to a cup that is already full. So, no Labbat, I won't tell you how you should feel or not feel, but I find it disturbing when someone goes out of their way to post on the Tool of the Day thread that they are specifically NOT sorry for fellow Americans, whom they work with every day, that are going through difficult and uncertain times. I really have a difficult time fathoming that lack of tact and empathy. Think it ... sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Say or post that you are not sorry that someone is getting furloughed or not getting paid = TOOL.

I nominate the lone airline crew deicing both wings AND tail on the ramp in Vegas the other morning. With not a cloud in the sky and an OAT of 48F. 🤔🤨

Tool of the year = anybody who feels the need to inject politics into a discussion that has NOTHING to do with politics.

Over the air I sound like a cross between Woody Allen and Steve Urkel so I am forced to use a "radio voice," which comes out sounding somewhat like Groucho Marx. Go figure.

They *might* have had frost from the night before. Or dew that looked like frost (if it's a NB or bigger I'm not going to get a ladder and crawl around the top of the wing doing a tactile check). Keep in mind that a cell-phone pic of something that looks like frost could generate media interest and an annoying company/FAA investigation... got to respect the optics these days.

Or they might have been padding their block time, that's an old trick if the company is screwing over labor. Or they might have been just trying to stick it to the man (de-ice ain't cheap... ).

Ever heard of cold fuel frost? If they had a long trip and had super cooled fuel in the tank it could form frost on the upper surface of the wing. Then, if their gate was in the shade the frost may not have had time to melt thus resulting in the need to deice.

Once you make that decision, the entire aircraft needs to be deiced. You could argue that the tail didn't need deicing, but that Captain was most likely exercising his authority to make the most conservative decision. I had a buddy that this happened to in Denver on a blue sky day with the temperature in the 40s as well.

The MD-80 had this problem until they put the upper wing heater blankets on the airplanes.
