Once they qual the 120 CA’s on the Jet, the downgrade is quick and cheep. It’s still adhering to the CAREs act, but getting training done while pilots are sitting around.

So for the junior bus pilots it will basically be "here's your 73 type and here's your furlough"

Looks that way. It does make sense when there’s not much flying for the summer.

So we are going to transfer 120 Airbus Captains to the Boeing then after they go through full training as a we are then going to downgrade... seems like a lot of work when we could just downgrade right off the bat.

Look at the down grade training syllabus and maybe you will think differently... There is always the hope that things change drastically between now and then. Bet the odds you like.

Not all the transition Captains will down grade, some will push current 737 guys out.

This doesn’t make sense. If Alaska is going towards a Boeing heavy fleet, why move junior pilots over to the 737, train them, get them type ratings and then fire them? They could just open up vacancies on the captain’s side if they wanted. They could displace captains from either fleet into any other base. It looks like they are opening up vacancies because they are getting rid of the buses and planning on attaining more 737s.

They are smart, they are ready for either.

Agreed. It doesn’t make sense. Why spend the costs of transitioning 240 pilots and follow that with a furlough. They gotta believe these bids are gonna go junior not senior...
