Quote: Is it pretty easy to credit over guarantee on reserve? I start in Nov and will be taking a 12k paycut with the bonus included and it's looking like the minimum salary will just cover my fixed expenses with nothing left over for food.
In my experience, no. Especially as an FO. You will however, get a little bump from per diem ($200-500). And if we hit our OPR's that's $300 every 3 months.

I sat reserve for 11 months as a 900 LGA FO and the last 7 months I broke guarantee every month. Sometimes it was only by 5 hours or so, but others I was crediting 90-95. Bidding first out in all categories, P2, and allowing 6 days on. Do your best to avoid ready reserve since that tends to put you on a ready reserve cycle for that period, I found.

As far as other Bases and Equipment goes, I can't really say. I was happy with the amount of use I saw on reserve on the 900 in NY.

another FNG question
first of all thanks for all the great replies I've gotten on this thread already for what is probably some real noobish questions. for those that don't know or remember, I am a rotorcraft guy looking to switch over. currently in the process of obtaining my multi comm.

so another noob question -

so i feel like endeavor is the place I want to be. so i apply and am hired. so the question is I want/need MSP as a base, could I be forced to take a base I didn't want ? how are bases gained or assigned ? can you be hired on the condition that you will only take a certain domicile?

wife would transfer to the AF reserve or guard unit at MSP as she is too close to retirement to walk away now. i totally get the QoL thing and am willing to move to a new place to live in domicile but definetly need to try and move to a base where there is an AF reserve or guard unit nearby with an opening

appreciate any help, Jeff

Bases are not guaranteed. You bid during training on the aircraft/bases the company determines they need bodies in. It's odd to me that we take a job not knowing where we will be based until after on property...I wouldn't dwell on this, all indications are you can hold MSP quickly.

If you are awarded your choice, great. It can be taken away by the company reducing or eliminating that base (ask the Memphis guys). The company (in most cases) try's to avoid this as there is a cascading effect down the seniority list that can be very costly. Virtually all airlines operate in this manner.

While waiting for my van in RDU the other day, I met a recent 9E hire who was placed in DTW during IOE, but is moving to MSP on the CR2 Oct 1...he finished IOE 3 weeks ago.

I absolutely agree with Slow on this one. Get there, study, learn, do your best, then let the puzzle work itself out. This stuff should be a low priority stress point as you make your choice. Good luck!

You could probably hold the Msp 200 right out of ground school as it has been the most junior so far. If not then maybe 1-2 months. It will depend on staffing need and of course your age determines seniority in the class.

How commutable are the 200 lines out of MSP for a new hire?

Really depends on the commute. Fairly rare for trips to begin before 0800 and end after 2000. Fairly easy to bid for commutability once you're a line holder. The union is also currently negotiating to allow reserves to commute during their call out window, which will be huge for commuters. Feel free to PM me with any other questions.

Which bases/aircraft might the best for commutability? Anyone have experience commuting out of Dallas?

I commute out of Houston with relative ease. I knew a captain that commuted out of dallas with little to no complaints.
