Okay guys. I'm between a rock and a hard place. I'm down to two airlines. Skywest or PSA. I have offers at both. Skywest is my preference in terms of base location. I grew up in CA and would like to stay in the area. That being said QOL is big for me at this point in my life. The SAP that PSA has is very enticing. Once you hold R1, you basically can write your own schedule. That being said after a year or so of seniority, in general(I understand this will vary greatly with base), how hard is it to get blocks of days off. I plan on using my travel benefits to the full extend and would like to be able to have at least 6-7 straight days off a month. I can do that with SAP, is that feasible on the Skywest end. To clarify, either way I won't be commuting for the long term. The schedule is not the only factor I've considered. It's more of a tie breaker for me to make a final decision. Thank you in advance.

Possible, but.... sounds like you understand it's completely based on where you stand in domicile. Seat seniority can vary greatly from base to base. What would be possible at 1 year in ORD or DTW is completely different than LA or SF. However, everything is fluid. Domicile, new flying, loss of flying, upgrades, attrition, fleet swaps, exc.. Nobody really knows.

If someone is telling you that something WILL happen at any regional 1+ year from now, especially related to seniority, I would go ahead and stop listening.

As a mid line holder in my base (45% FO more or less), I consistently get about 5 days off in a row each month and then I have been pretty successful at getting people to pick up a trip and turn it into 7-9 days off in a row. The key is in how you bid. Results can vary by base

Ha that quote was me being that guy a year ago. When I was in your position driving to work trumped everything. I chose my regional (Skywest) and my airframe (CRJ) based on that. Seventeen days off in May. Best of luck.

Trust me:

You will stop wanting to use your travel benefits after maybe two months of commuting to reserve. You will not want to set foot anywhere near an airport on your days off. You will come to loathe air travel anytime you are not working a flight.

Commuting sucks. Commuting to reserve REALLY sucks. Unless you're planning on moving to CLT, plan on hating your life and wasting days off commuting because you get non-commutable trips.
