Wife just flew on SWA from DAL ORF through BWI. Packed. Said SWA was running 5 flights a day from BWI ORF. Loads seem to be improving. At some point we have to accept that the business model is to pack as many people as possible in the smallest possible space. Meanwhile, I broke a big toe today and while getting treated at the doc in a box, heard, “Covid test in room 3!” From the nurses station. I dodged Covid in NYC and will now get it in semi rural Texas.

They can’t afford to. It’s too much lift that would be lost in the event we need to/have the opportunity to pick up pace again. 220 delivery schedule is minimal at best and when we want 321s again those were still months behind schedule.

Even if we shell 60 190’s.. we have been historically understaffed for years. An 85-87 ALV all year long is largely different than the 65 you get at DAL. I was at leading edge when this all began and something that was said from mgmt was that if we go to 70 hours (CBA limit for line value) that would take care
of a 20% reduction in flying.

900 pilots seems pretty aggressive even given this situation. Plus we have made it clear we are still taking 220’s, 321’s and going to Europe. As well as travelers coming back. Im hoping we make a move like Spirit and Frontier are doing. Getting rid of 900 pilots is a stretch in my mind.

“This means we have to find a significant number of crewmembers to leave JetBlue...”

Not overly shocking, but it still sucks. I'm going to say that the significant number is gong to be non-pilot positions, though we'll be included to some degree

Was this said in an internal memo or something? Any context?

I'm in the pool so on the outside looking in trying to follow along.

I agree. I don’t know if this pilot group has been living in a fantasy world about what’s going on in our industry, but that email from RH wasn’t even that grim. If that type of email came from Kirby or Bastian, people would’ve said they’re being overly positive.

We also know they were going to offer voluntary leaves for several weeks now.

Well if they offer 15 years of 50 hr per month plus 401K contribution I’ll take the early out!
