Another thing for noobs (starting Indoc in next few classes) is the plane they pick, they will most likely be stuck flying at that base for the next year+ unless the company changes their current AE projection.

Skyhub is stating next AE 4th quarter 2019. So worst case lets say Dec, results come out in Jan 2020, conversions start in Feb. Generally they convert in seniority order, so junior guys might not convert until end of the conversion window 6 months later (Jul 2020 timeframe). That could be a long time commuting to NYC for a plane that has a majority of non-commmutable front end trips.

Did a bit of reading through this thread and saw how the majority of new hires are going to NYC.

I currently live in Atlanta, an Air Force pilot flying the E-8 (Boeing 707), have 23 months until retiring, and am hoping to get picked up by Delta and stay in Atlanta. Is there an airframe that would be my best bet to do that or commute to NYC and then like a year later be transferred to Atlanta? From reading on here it appears the 737 or 717 are the best bets but if I get hired I'll be a noob too lol, so I could very easily be wrong.

You'll get to Atlanta no problem. Exactly the best way to do that or how long it will take is unknown this far out (you'll even be guessing when it's go time). Reattack once you have a class date and you'll have plenty of current info to make a good decision. Good luck!

You are right in the 737 or 717 being best, but even if you don't get those the new hire seat lock allows you to change equipment after a year of that is what it takes to get the base you want, so even if you got the A220 you could bid off in a year.

Anything you got as a new hire is also based in ATL (except the 220, which as mentioned can bid off after a year - though by the time you get converted it could be well over a year before you can drive to work). Good luck.

330 Atlanta pilots have to age 65 retire in the next 23 months, plus some early goes. You might get Atlanta right away.

Because we're not going to hire anyone in the next 23 months who also wants ATL, nor is anyone who has already been hired recently trying to get in either...

24 months is a long time in Deltaville. In the next 24 months, we'll probably retire a fleet or two, open/close a base or two, buy a new airframe or two, and merge with another company or two. Only 69% of what I just typed will eventually be true. Which 69%, no one knows. The point is that no one can give you the answer you seek. Come back and ask that question when you've got the CJO in hand and the info will be much more accurate. Good luck, and I hope you avoid the non-vol 365s that will inevitably be thrown your way in your last two years. Was in your shoes not long ago.
