You’re seat locked after initial so but that can be waived at company discretion when they need it.

So you think ERJ is the way to go?

If I could make the decision again I would go ERJ. That said, there’s probably a lot more knowledgeable people on here than me who could chime in.

It depends on the base that you want. CRJ isn't going away any time soon.

I have a class date in March on the CRJ. My goal is DFW base which is only CRJ at the time, any word on that changing? Probably best for me to stay CRJ if that’s the case.

You could take either then for IAH but I think long term 175 would be better for you.

Anyone making significant pronouncements about CRJ vs ERJ flying is getting way ahead of themselves. Sure, the ERJ is the future, but it'll be a slow transition. Either way a) we're losing 100+ people likely senior to you a month and b) initial seat lock is 2 years. So wait a month or two and you'll probably be holding a junior line anywhere. Patience my friends.

What people aren’t seeing/saying is that the ERJ CA upgrade is about to go straight back to 4-6 years of seniority once 2022 comes around.
There is a massive backlog of people trying to move CRJ CA -> ERJ CA as well as very senior CRJ FO -> ERJ CA that will have to be processed/awarded.
These all got bypassed over the last 6 months simply bc of training program limitations with the influx of new hires coming in. These people were also waiting for an ERJ CA slot throughout and even before COVID times.
The only way ERJ CA will go junior again is if OO does this same ERJ FO-ERJ CA restriction again (just like what happened with the opening of the ERJ LGA base years ago. They needed captain staffing and pronto, so they jammed through a large number of short course upgrades bc the full type + upgrade course would have taken too long.

Like I have always done though, I recommend picking the CRJ first, not bc it’s a ‘rite of passage’, but bc it will help you mentally be able to fly a jet much more proficiently than If you went straight to the ERJ with the insanely high level of automation.
