Base Assignment Reality

I am a CFI on track to meet ATP mins next March. The main reason I am interested in Skywest is their bases in the south west U.S. I'm really hoping for a southern California or Phoenix assignment. For people with more knowledge than me, is my hope realistic at all? Do any new hire FO's ever get these locations or should I just expect to commute from Southern California for a few years?

I asked around and it turns out 7/10 people who went to STL and about 50-60% of our class overall didn’t pass the KV the first time, I think it’s problematic but it is what it is.

Don’t sweat it A318. You’ll be fine in the long run.

You can view the current most junior hire by base on the skywest website. Nobody can predict base seniority (or existence) more than about 60 days out.

At this point there’s no reason for you to come here. Go to Mesa where you’ll make $100 an hour and will be able to be Phoenix based

Did you just say something positive? Who hijacked Domino’s account?

FWIW, your doom and gloom has never frustrated me and I’ve been lurking here for a few years now. Your glass is just half empty. Haters gonna hate.

Regarding travel benefits… are travel companions in lieu of spouse allowed for Alaska benefits, or only spouse/DP?

You won't have a problem getting LA as a base within a couple of months if you're on the ERJ (and there is zero reason not to choose the ERJ).

This used to not be true. CRJ had significantly better base picks and upgrade times but now, having flown both, and how fast IOE times are on the ERJ , you are 100% correct.
