UAL and Jumpseats
#471
Serious question here, I know OO has decided that they prefer to have no jump seat agreement at all with United rather than the boarding priority scheme UA-ALPA crafted and submitted back in May, or even treating each other as OAL only, with no preferential boarding priority, but why was war declared on XJT, Whiskey, et al? What sin have they committed?

I am interested in the OPs original question as well. Is it just collateral damage?

"Authorized personnel" on the jumpseat priority list is intended as a backup for crew movement. Flights have been cancelled due to inability to deadhead crews on full flights and unwillingness to remove revenue passengers. Positive space jumpseats on the regionals will greatly ease this issue.
Your intuition is right. All you need are the facts in support.

We had a pilot here at ZW who got denied twice tonight on SkyWest. One on AA for the jumpseat and another as a nonrev on UA. The CA asked the gate agent for the companies of any nonrevs who are trying to get on. He was denied a seat in the back as a nonrev from the CA.

IF this is true then the SkyWest pilot group has really gone off the rails.

Unfortunately it’s true. Heard it from the pilot right after it happened...Gate agent called someone on the other end of the jetbridge, that person told the CA an Air Wisconsin non rev Pilot wants on, and he said no.

If it did happen, I can almost guarantee that CA was one of our sub-500-seniority SLC lifers.

Filling the void as you say wouldn’t be that difficult. A void would only be created if a company like Skywest suspended service for United overnight, not if it happens over a couple of years. Comair wasn’t shut down overnight. They were phased out. Flying could easily be phased out at one and built up at another. Same is true for the legacies. United could spool down and the others would simply spool up and pick up the pieces. Bigger airlines than any regional today have gone by way of the dodo. The decision won’t be due to any vendetta, but for business reasons. If they determine that a company like Skywest is the better option, they will go that way. If they think that investing in carriers that they have an ownership stake in would result in more control and a better plan, they’ll go that way and flying will shift away from Skywest to where they want it.
