Classy. I wore the regional jersey for close to a decade. Disdain? Not so much. Critical of those who wish to continually erode the profession? Yes; pilots and management at the mainline and regional level.

My question was more out of curiosity. I experienced first hand how Skywest/Mesa management operates when they hold the hammer. For the record I enjoyed some of my time at the regionals. Other times not so much, but that had little to do with the players and more so the game. Fly safe.

There is also the requirement that they are hired at second year pay (not longevity), and that all 76 seaters have to be reconfigured to 70 seats for the duration of the United furlough. It’s not an investment, it’s a penalty to make furlough less attractive to United.
I was hired back in April 2011. The few classes before mine were Brasilia classes full of United furloughs and there were a couple of them in my CRJ new hire class. Regionals were just starting to hire after a 3 year lull but the majors hadn’t started recalling furloughs yet.
The 2 UA furloughees in my class didn’t end up even spending a year at SkyWest before they were recalled back to UAL. They were offered 2nd year pay (a modest $36/hr at the time) but hey it was flying job that would knock a couple years worth of rust off so I can understand why they came to SKW even if for a short lived career here.

So you spent a decade eroding the profession?

I wonder how the attitudes of the mainline guys, many of whom post regularly here, will change. After all, in their minds we're just second class citizens. How will they ever choke back their disgust at the idea of sharing a flight deck with regional pukes like us? The mind fairly boggles...

Let me be clear: I hope everyone, everywhere, keeps the jobs they have, and that furloughs are avoided. We're all line pilots; we're all in this together. But I'm tired of the constant stream of condescension directed at regional pilots by some of the mainline guys on this forum. According to them, we're the home of "misfits," "guys with DUIs," "guys with felonies," "losers who would never pass our interviews," and so on. All of this is just misguided, ridiculous, and frankly offensive commentary.

I'm sure that if a flowback happens, that 99 out of 100 flowback guys will be great to fly with. Maybe it's just the 1% that frequent this forum. I'm just not looking forward to flying with that guy.

rumor:
Mesa parks their 20 United 700s while expressjet 25 175s shift to Mesa instead of Skyw. Skyw buys United’s 22 175SC order.
