We've had 15 low speed events this year. I'm not surprised.

How in the absolute shizz, after Colgan 3407, are pilots STILL not minding the store when it comes to airspeed?!?

I have no idea. Anybody that cruises less than .70 in a 200, or less than .74 in a 7/900 is an idiot. To totally checkout and not notice a decaying speed event is pure incompetence.

Eh, it can happen to anyone, I don't know how much inattention it takes but I'm guilty of inattention. But a couple speed events ago we as a pilot group should have thrown out ECON.

There's more to it than that.

Those are reasonable numbers, and check with my own experience.

Company assigned cruise speeds (ECON) can be MUCH lower than what many experienced CRJ pilots would consider prudent. Folks who comply with ECON speeds blindly have little to no margin at the bottom and would therefore need to maintain a MUCH higher level of attentiveness than is the norm for jet aircraft in cruise flight. Like 100% attentiveness.

No, I quite strongly disagree that it can happen to anyone. It hasn't and won't happen to me, as I'm a professional pilot that pays attention. I also don't do stupid crap like fly slow to increase block (which is really pointless by the time you're in the air anyway).

Well said. We have access to lots of information to safely accomplish high altitude flight, including predicting performance. At cruise I periodically check ISA deviation, as well as use the excellent Delta high alt met charts that have a wealth of data that contribute to predicted performance.

The vast majority of our pilots do the same... But as you said, the ECON speeds can throw off some who clearly don't know their craft very well. Honestly, I find this whole thing extremely embarrassing for our pilot group.

I see you have ore important things to discuss now based on your companies newly announced altitude restrictions and the reasons for them. So you're correct when you said "Skywest isn't any other regional, it's Skywest" Lesson for the day, Junior. When you talk smack, a humbling is soon to follow. Carry on

Not to point fingers and I have no data to back this up, but it seems to me we have had a bunch of these so far this year. What has changed?

Now I always thought the sim during the interview was pretty dumb. But you had to pay attention and have good awareness to keep it on track. We stop doing it during interviews, take whoever we can and hope that training will flush them out and now we have a whole bunch of low speeds happening all of a sudden?? For me, I think that the departure of CE and our attitude of get any butt in the seat has to have contributed some to this.
