It doesn't make a difference. When the 65 year old captain retires making X he is replaced by a guy making the same X.

And yes, they are raising the retirement age but not in one big bounce like last time 60 to 65. It will be slowly raised from 65 to 75 over a 10 year period so nobody needs to complain.

Upgrade is running around 3 months and usually if your IOE is going well, and it almost always does, they just make you a Check Airman so you can give yourself your own line check.

Now, for becoming a Designated Examiner they want a lot more experience, we're talking at least 2 weeks.

Take my word for it.
