One other question.... What are the "Delta benefits"? Does your family fly for free or something?

Usually there are a mix of pairings in the domicile. These include local (1 day), 2, 3, or 4 day tips and split duty overnights (show 9pm/released the next morning at 8am with 5 or so hours at hotel).

The shorter trips usually go to those that live in domicile, while the longer trips are preferred by commuters. Myself, as an example, I live in domicile and haven't packed an overnight bag in about 3 months. I bid locals and split duty trips so I'm home every day. SLC doesn't have a lot of commuters so we don't have a high percentage of 4 day trips.

ORD 175 trips being nearly 90% 4 day are great if you are commuting or face a long drive to the airport that you only make once a week. If you live close to the airport, doing multiple trips a week may work better for you and increase your time at home with the wife/family...

After a yearly service charge ($200 or so for a family). Your immediate family and parents fly free. Additional fees for international stuff. If you commute it opens up additional options as well.

If you don't plan on traveling a lot it's not a big deal. If you do...

I have thought about transitioning over the 175. I bid 45% in MSP and the trips are horrible. Next month the average 4 day only pays 17 hrs, yet the line credit range is 87 hrs.

I see... Thanks for the info. I'll be commuting so a 4 day trip works well for me.

What does this mean?

How is life for a new guy living in base at MSP? I'm interested in high value trips, day trips, etc. Looking for the best quality of life - i.e. home often, flexibility, etc.

Are there many options for 700/900 trips out of MSP, or are they senior?

Thanks.

I dont mean to hijack the topic going on here now, but could someone pm about the health insurance benefits (if it can be called that) at skywest? Or maybe sum it up for me? I've never ever had a job that had ANY benefits like health insurance , dental, vision, etc. The website isn't really clear on how it works, or maybe i'm too dumb to understand it. Is it really insurance or do alot of you guys carry your own personal policies as well? Thanks guys

Yes. It's real insurance. I have a family of 4 and use the PPO. About $260 per check for me. There are other options for the younger guys and they can explain those better than me. High deductible low monthly premium types. I think there are 4-5 options. The costs are creeping up but overall United healthcare does a good job for me. Dental is average. Covers a cleaning twice a year and 40-60% of most other procedures. Company pays 100% for long term disability. Also life insurance. There is no loss of license or medical insurance which is a shame. Many get that through AOPA. I'm sure others can cover what I've missed. It's a good package but it's not cheap. As comparison, I've got a good friend who went to JetB from SW and he says ours is better and less expensive.
