Had my car there for new hire RJ training. Flight Safety is all right there so granted I didnt have to head to California but having a car was sure nice. Being able to drive up to Park City to see actual snow was cool. I was there in Jan/Feb 2012 and snow in SLC was almost non existent that winter. Go to store, out to eat, out to drink w/o having to rely on the bus or hotel shuttle. Now that the light rail is running you can do all that w/o a car except driving out of town. If I had to do it all again even with the train I'd still probably drive. The drive itself from Texas to SLC through the mountains in the winter was awesome.

We had guys drive SLC-FAT-LGB. If your an outdoorsy person having a car is great. Nothing beats SLC for quick access to ski resorts and hiking. That's something the public transit can't provide. If you don't care about that stuff and just want to party downtown then you don't need a car. The hotel shuttle goes to the store.
I would bring the car, unless you plan to commute to base and don't want a car there.
But on the drive from SLC to FAT, don't just blindly follow mapquest, do your homework...it will route you through the yosemite back gate which is closed seasonally. Heard of more than on person who got to the back gate and then had to detour around a very large mountain range.

I didn't have my car for EMB initial, and I did for CRJ transition. If at all possible, DEFINITELY bring your car!! I was much happier having it the 2nd time.

FYI, vacancy bid opened up for 30 FO's and 30 CA's for the 175 in ORD. All without knowing pay, seatlock, trips, or anything.

Wouldn't that make sense as a CEO too? If 100 people apply to work a job without knowing the pay why would any boss set the payscale high? That's just throwing away money. The people bidding it are basically saying that they don't care what the pay is.

I hope they award all of the transitions and upgrades then announce that the pay is $15/hour. Maybe that would teach people a lesson about applying for a job before you know what the pay scale is.

As much as I avoid posting here because I deem useless, Hats off to you for making me respond. Here is an excerpt from the VP of FO memo "While details have not been finalized, economics and industry data would suggest that the pay rates for the ERJ175 are comparable to the CRJ700/900. More detailed pay rate information will be available in the future as we progress through the negotiation process".

Do you really think the lack of details concerning the E175 will stop people from bidding for it? People will be tripping over themselves to be the first to fly it.
