Pay is a lost cause. We need to focus on other things that provide benefit to us with not as much cost to the company. Examples....

- Max per diem and 401k match is better than a raise because all the money the company gives up goes in our pockets, the tax man doesn't get his cut (well he gets the 401k much later, but in a lower bracket).

- MDG: This MUST be 5.0 or greater. It will cost the company some, but mostly it will force them to get off their lazy arses and build more efficient pairings. This might require new software, more schedulers, and/or pilot supervision of pairing construction but it would provide more benefit to the pilot group than a significant raise, which would cost a lot more to boot.

- Any other reimbursable business expense ie full pay for medicals...as a business expense this is not taxed as income. Gym memberships might even fall into this category since pilots need to be healthy and fit. Parking passes for commuters, cell phones, laptops, etc...all probably justifiable as business costs.

- Any other QOL intangibles. Just a thought...a quality daily crew meal would improve moral and again be a tax write-off for the company since it could easily be justified as needed for operational reasons (no lunch break). I'm not talking about standard snack boxes, but rather a custom box with quality healthy food that would be available in hubs and domiciles. Not sure if fresh fruit/veggies would be practical, but at least freeze-dried fruit.

This. Too many of us are so shortsighted that the only thing that matters to them is the number at the bottom of the paycheck. SGU doesn't want our payrates to go up, but (the inanity of the water thing notwithstanding) there has to be someone there who recognizes that if they don't spend more money on us somewhere that there will be an exodus when mainline really gets hiring. They talk a good game about "well, we'll just shrink the airline" but no flying=no business=no profits, which is why they're taking on 12 Endeavor planes, plus the Alaska 175s, plus the United 175s are still coming online while we still can't properly staff the flying we have now. They're talking out of both sides of their mouths, like usual. And don't kid yourself, the 227 current Brasilia pilots will make a dent but won't even come close to satisfying the need we have for pilots to staff our projected fleet unless we lose PHX. (And I'm not saying I want us to lose PHX, I'm just saying they've been pretty quiet about the future of our AmeriAirways flying.)

I can neither confirm nor deny that.

I guess I don't understand why people are already conceding any pay increase?

BS

I want more of everything, let management do their job of running a more efficient airline with out taking the easy path of squeezing the help.

Make management work, ever go to the hangar or head quarters on friday after lunch? The place is deserted!

Ive been put in the "pool" and don't start class for several months. Originally they put me in the Dec. 29th CRJ class but i had to defer til later. Does anyone have any study material books/material to suggest so that the firehose in SLC next spring wont be so bad?? I've seen some CRJ200 systems study guide books on amazon, but i dunno if these would do me more harm than good. I don't want to have to unlearn alot of stuff.
I have the pre training study packet with the EPLs, but would love to get my hands on as much as i can to make good use of my time now. Thanks

Was it your choice to defer a class date, or did they say you must wait for several months?

I chose to defer because of other commitments that I needed to finish. Why?

Just show up ready to go. They will email you the stuff you need to study. Just get your life in order, you will be busy.
