The airline with the industries absolute worst reserve rules took whats a suicidal QOL situation to a new low extreme. Basically if you are on reserve, your show time begins, with out notice, the second the day begins.
It was not what SAPA thought could happen but the company exploited it to some perverse extreme. The company is not giving in.
People are literally leaving aviation, all together, as a result.
Go else where, trust me!

I’m on the fence that people are saying “commandability”
On a side note this activity is against the law the only hope is that people are filing ASAPs and SCRs.

Example: A pilot commutes to MSP from DEN for reserve that is a reserve availability period from 9a to 9p. Before, the soonest the company could call was 9a for the soonest show time of 11a, 2 hour show time. Which is something easy to do on your first day of reserve. Now, scheduling can put on that same person's 9a to 9p reserve schedule a show time of 5a, without notification, and now the person has to commute out the day before and get their own hotel. In addition it is now the person's responsibility to constantly check their schedule to see if something has been assigned, or get in trouble.
There are other terrible elements to this new manure sandwich as well. But make no mistake the company found the loop hole, exploited to it's brink, have realized it may be illegal, but are not backing down even though they know how upset the employees are. Profit first!
This little gem is on top of what is easily the worst reserve rules in the industry.
Seriously, go someplace else. Better yet instruct for another year or so and go directly to Spirit or Aliegent, it will happen soon.

I will admit I'm not on reserve, but this is what I've been told and read over.

Not illegal, unfortunately.
Say three days off...
Pilot can be required to check his schedule "periodically" on his days off as long as he:
1) Has a 30 hour break somewhere in there.
2) Is not required to check his schedule within 10 hours of show.
This is work rules, not regulatory. Basically the company is assuming that anyone can check their schedule anywhere at any time on their phone, so it doesn't really interfere with contractual days off (except you can't go on an excursion out of cell-phone/internet coverage, which is actually an issue for of the Rocky Mountain folks). The company is also assuming they own your butt starting at 0001 on your first work day.
