Yes, but upgauging three daily -200 flights to a certain outstation, to a single 737 flight to that same outstation...

...requires 2 mainline pilots, rather than the 6 regional pilots required to operate those 3 daily -200 flights.

Personally I wish UA, DL, AA, and AS would take back all the regional flying tomorrow, just so we don't have to listen to JetBrat22 whine about his upgrade.

As long as regionals can staff the flying there will be plenty of 200s and 175s flying around.

Plenty of Nowhere, ND that cannot support a 737 but happily a 200. And with plenty of EAS $ going around nobody will turn that business away.

Truth^^^. Furthermore if mainline even replaced 200s with say a 190, thats a 2:1 ratio, so only half the pilots would be needed at most.

It usually doesn't work that way. Airlines generally need three flights / day to absorb the overhead of station costs (maybe two flights on Tue & Sat).

Pax prefer frequency and most small-town pax are connecting. They are not going to take one daily flight to the hub at 0600 and then wait around for a connection at 1700. Frequency is one of the key reasons we have so many RJ's to begin with.

If the airlines can't make it work with RJ's (up to maybe 100 seats), then they'll just drop service to Podunk Falls (unless congress steps in with more EAS).

How much extra flying can we do with our 4,000 pilots than the other regionals? At least 2-3% more with our credit vs block. Not to mention the fact that we get our schedules loaded to the max and require less reserves since we have no contractual protections that cost the company more money. (like other airlines under the Inc umbrella) We can do more flying for less money because we continually look at pay rates during negotiations and miss all the QOL items that other regionals have. Little things like commuter hotels and parking passes add up to big savings for the company. Then they take 6% of all those savings and let us split it between the 4,000 of us. Why anyone would be excited to have more pilots to split the profit sharing is beyond me.

Ol' Skippy is just dropping the same fear bomb they launched as SAPA was selling us our pay package. I can't believe any of us would think they would be perfectly fine shrinking our airline because they can't afford to give us a higher min day or reserve rules. I'll be happy with whatever number of pilots that finally allows me to drop or trade a trip after 2 years of working 90+ hours each month.

SkyWest Airlines Announces Partnership with ATP Flight School

11k for all new hires coming from ATP.

I'd say the new pay talks should be interesting.
