Are you guys talking about your vacation bank and user bank? I thought as a line holder you could use vacation minimum 2.5 hrs? Obviously, you probably wouldn't break credit that month but maybe vacation was more important.

That's how I interpreted it. Vacation time with user time with golden days seemed to be a fair amount of vacation time a year...that is considering to a normal job with 10 days off.

I wish I hadnt ever taken vacation time and cashed it in at captain rates.
+60-70% overnight

3 hours a month is a joke.
Or is it the punch line to the 401k?

Golden Days are not extra days off.
Heck with PBS taking a week vacation can in the end get you more block hours than normal.

Here's the thing tcco. You nee 10 days off.so you set it to 2.5 hours of credit. 25 hours vacation for your ten days off! Not bad!

But wait, you need 90 hours to complete a line, and now you have 20 workdays to fly 65 hours. Good luck. You'll have 6 on 1 off for the rest of the month.

So yeah your days off are off, but you not only pay for it in vacation bank, you pay for it by getting beat to death the rest of the month.

Don't even bring up the normal job stuff. A normal job is 40 hours a week. How long are you gone from home a week? 80? It doesn't matter to me if I'm on duty or not. Away from home means I'm at work period.

Ah I gotcha. I definitely wasn't trying to sound like I was arguing it, just pointing out how I thought it worked. I really don't know.

I've been with the company benefits wise over a year so I have vacation already for a week in July but I'm bidding reserve. Don't expect to get a line by then and kinda curious to how my schedule will go. I have 7 days (3 are gold). I was told they will make sure I work back the 3 golden days but not my vacation days so if I bid a reserve line that has let's say 2/3 days off before the vacation(or after) they will probably just rearrange my schedule with what PBS gives me, correct? Meaning any of those days off on the reserve line could turn into a working day.

elmetal 05-12-2017 10:57 PM

The 3 golden days if they fall on a day of a reserve line that works, you don't have to make them up, but you pay for them with user time. You can call and work them elsewhere to save usertime. As for vacation, you'll pay 4:12 per workday missed due to vacation, regardless of what you set the rate to.

So realistically to save vacation, you wanna bid the reserve line with the least amount of workdays within the vacation period if that make sense

Yes I did. The way it works is, in Pbs you go to the off days tab and select 8 or so off days. Then layer all 8 in layer 1, and 7 of them layer 2, 6 in layer 3 and then 5 in layer 4. So there's a chance you don't get all 8 off, but I did. They told me with your seniority don't select days at beginning or end of the month. I just looked at the preassignment graph and saw that feb 6-feb14 preassignments were lowest, meaning those days we were most staffed, so I selected the days then. This was in ORD this year and I was ninety something percent.

The fact is 90% of the pilot group finds it easy to Get 7-10 days off twice a year... the 10%'rs are on here complaining thry don't because there not doing it right... Nd i have more 4-5 day off blocks then i ever care to have..

elmetal 05-13-2017 11:18 AM

K. Now that we have bid transparency, I don't have to just assume you're lying and making up numbers, we can all actually see for ourselves the truth.

Yes, read the manual and I've got enough vacation hours to cover the whole vacation.
